  1. Oh, yikes... That kind of puts me off a little. Shouldn't faculty be making the decisions from beginning to end? Not sure how I feel about currently enrolled MFA students being able to just toss my app before it hits a faculty member's eyes. I was one of the top 12% of applicants to UMich last cycle; I remember getting that email!
  2. Which university is MI? And they have MFA students reading and deciding on the first round of applicants? I've never heard of this! I was always assuming all programs had a small team of faculty members reading through applications, especially based on what I've heard from program faculty that I've spoken with
  3. I'm super interested in what's the best course of action when it comes to applying to MFAs. When I was in undergrad, I applied to maybe 11-12 programs and got into two. Two years later, I applied to eight programs, including one of the ones I previously got accepted to, and got rejected from all of them. And I 100% know my writing sample was stronger! So it seems the admissions process is super subjective, with some years having certain people on the board who would love your work and some years featuring faculty members who just don't vibe with what you write. This year, I applied to 19 with the mindset "I'll have to get into at least one!"
  4. Don't sell yourself so short; plenty of applicants get accepted straight out of undergrad! I was one of them ❤️ Didn't end up going, though. Is Iowa your top choice? And is your username a reference to the Lana song? Love that album!
  5. Has anyone else been waitlisted at Illinois?
