Thanks! And I heard nothing from VCU at all until I got the rejection, so I'm assuming I was just rejected without being waitlisted first. That's strange that you would be rejected from the waitlist before April 15, though – how is that supposed to work?? Unless all the spots have already been claimed, I guess. It feels kind of early for that but maybe not.

VCU just came through with that rejection email. It's looking like my final stats are: Rejected - UVA, VCU, NCSU, JHU, Pittsburgh (I just sat here for a solid five minutes trying to remember this one so... clearly it was not meant to be), probably VT Waitlisted - WVU, Arkansas, LSU Accepted - Rutgers-Camden with full tuition remission, full funding, and a TAship – I was waitlisted initially, then off the waitlist in less than 24 hours! I had a Zoom with Paul Lisicky and he seemed like a really nice guy, super enthusiastic about his program and his students. I'm tempted to go ahead and take the offer, because I'm down to relocate to Philly and have a good feeling about the program. At the same time, FOMO makes me want to hang in there until the eleventh hour to see if any of these waitlists move. I think I'm going to wait until the end of this month to see if anything comes up, but... I'm really thinking Rutgers-Camden is the one. I think if I ask myself "say you did get off one of the waitlists, would you still go with R-C?" and the answer is "probably," then... I think it's the one? It's pretty crazy that this process is drawing to a close. One of the most stressful wait periods I've ever had, excepting maybe the time I was waiting for brain MRI results (they were negative). Congratulations to everybody who has received good news this winter/spring, and all the best of luck to everybody planning to apply for the 23-24 round.

Seriously. Checking my email on this peaceful Sunday morning was like that "one kiss is all it takes" Tik Tok trend that's going around right now...

That Hopkins rejection came through yesterday at last. I applied to VCU and WVU and am seeing some folks post about their acceptances to those places, so I'm inclined to think I've been waitlisted or rejected. On the bright side, I was off the Rutgers-Camden waitlist and had an offer within 24 hours! Bless whoever that was who already knows their plans and was able to turn down an offer that early. Between Rutgers-Camden, LSU (I have an interview so I'm hoping for either an acceptance or waitlist there), and U of Arkansas (on a "very short" waitlist), I'm feeling good at the prospect of having some options. It doesn't look like anybody has heard anything from UVA yet. They're the last ones on my list. Current stats are: 1a/1w/3r/5p (of those 5, I have one upcoming interview, one is an almost certain rejection, 2 are likely rejection or waitlist, and 1 is completely unknown). I'm not complaining... I certainly don't want to go through this process more than once and am very grateful to be where I'm at.

NCSU came through with that rejection letter. That makes two official rejections for me – Pittsburgh and NCSU – and two very likely – Virginia Tech and Hopkins. Would a school have literally any reason to send out rejections in like, staggered batches? I see a couple of folks upthread got their Hopkins rejections today, but I haven't gotten anything yet. Checked the portal and nothing there has changed either. Just hit me with that No so I can move on with my life y'all...

Wow! After a couple of agonizing weeks hearing nothing from any of my programs (except a rejection from Pittsburgh), good news has been trickling in since Friday – I'm on a "very short" waitlist at Arkansas (fiction), I've been waitlisted at Rutgers-Camden (fiction), and I have an interview with LSU in a couple of days. I've pretty much stopped obsessively refreshing my email and Draft altogether now... the prospect of me leaving my unbearable day job to pursue something I actually care about feels very real now, and not pie-in-the-sky. Good luck to everybody holding out for good news this week.

I really have to knock it off with the checking of these "micro-updates" as I'm calling them. At the same time, I don't feel like I'm necessarily jumping the gun by interpreting some of these as rejections at this point. For instance, I've seen people post about being accepted/waitlisted to Hopkins and NC State – I've heard nothing from either, so interpreting those as definite rejections. Someone on Draft reported being contacted by VT about making it to the final round of consideration for Fiction. I didn't get an email like that, so I'm chalking that one up as a rejection. The only official rejection I've gotten is from Pittsburgh, but in my head I already have four rejections. Sucks! I'm excited to hear more from Arkansas about their next round of consideration, however. Congratulations, though, to everybody who has had some good news thus far! I know that's got to be a massive relief!

Rejected from Pittsburgh with a very nice (and timely, considering that I know acceptances were notified yesterday) letter! Waiting for the rejection from Hopkins, because I know that's coming down the pike too. Has anybody else who made the second round for Arkansas heard anything new? It's been nearly three weeks, so I'm getting paranoid that someone out there has been contacted for an interview and I'm out of the running... things this cycle certainly felt off to a good start with that email on 1/27, lol. Congratulations to everybody who got into JHU and Pitt!
-
Do you mean the erotic fiction @notebook wrote upthread about Milken's mom? That wasn't mine but I agree that it was worthy of a writing sample... thank you for the encouraging words though lmao!
-
I didn't get an interview either ??
-
I'm writing smut fanfiction. I can't focus on "real projects."
-
Congratulations! I just got the same. I also applied to Pitt – knowing that someone out there got an interview request and I haven't heard anything yet is wracking these nerves. But it's great to be going into the weekend with some positive news.

I applied to Pitt too. Haven't heard anything. I also applied to LSU and UVA! Let's hope we hear something soon, especially from UVA.
-
I hope so, too. I applied to ten programs in total, so I'm really hoping to hear some updates from a couple. I wanted to come back and say, though – now that I think about it, the protocol with Arkansas seemed to be that we submit our materials by 12/31, then in January the program reaches out to our referees for their letters, if we've made it to the next round. But it doesn't specify that we'll be informed right away. Maybe, if you haven't heard anything by February 1 and you feel comfortable enough with your referees to ask, you could inquire whether any of them received a prompt to submit letters for Arkansas? I might do that myself... good luck!
