MSW Canadian Applications Fall 2023
hopeful2024 replied to stillpsych's topic in Social Workers Forum
I actually received my JoinID in December - although a handful of people in this forum I saw had not yet. I wouldn't worry too much about it as it's likely an administrative issue and for previous UofT applicants, the system might have gotten confused on whether or not to issue them. the final decisions letter will ultimately come through the SGS portal so don't worry about it affecting your application status as your application is not reliant on information in ACORN ! I would touch base with Angela if you want to double check though and for peace of mind, she's typically quite responsive š- 997 replies

MSW Canadian Applications Fall 2023

Sure! I share them with caution as I donāt want for folks to feel discouraged or be compelled to compare - I am not sure which parts of my application may have been more heavily weighted in the decision and I am aware that my stats and level of experience may be much less (or more) than other applicants with different outcomes. Iāll be graduating with my BSW this year (so applied to Advanced Standing - I am not a 2-year applicant) and at the time of application had an 11.3 GPA on a 12.0 scale. Not sure what the specific percentage is, but it's in the A or high 80s range. In terms of experience, I did 780 hours between 2 BSW practicums that were split between a macro role in research and programming, followed by a micro practice counselling role in the VAW sector. I also had around 400 hours employed as an intake worker for a counselling agency and around 350 hours in research assistant-ships. Total hours on my CV - including non-social work related - was about 3000 hours. My references were a professor in the School of Social Work at my university who taught me in two courses and my two different BSW placement field instructors, both who are RSWs. If anyone is hearing news that was not what they were hoping or are feeling discouraged, please be gentle with yourself. A rejection or waitlist is not reflective that you are not suitable for this program or field - it is merely indicative that the admissions committee was unable to equally measure the capabilities of all their applicants. Wishing everyone well!- 997 replies

Congrats! You canāt see the stream yet (you will in your official SGS letter) - I just assumed mine based off of how I ranked them and the fact I mentioned only one stream in my personal statement - and you are only offered admission for the stream you applied to š If you applied for two streams then it could be either though!- 997 replies

Somebody else said something similar, but Iāll echo them: my invitation appeared on my Dashboard under Academics with the $500 fee appearing under Finances. If you see nothing there yet, itās likely because they havenāt released all the admissions offers yet - the first ones were released this morning. Iām not sure what would appear there for rejections or waitlisting though.- 997 replies

Hey, I received an invitation in my ACORN but my offer has not shown up in the SGS portal yet and from what Iāve seen from past years, it takes a few days to update after ACORN does. The admissions coordinator had said that decisions would be released this week and by early next week - all that to say, for folks that havenāt seen an update in SGS or if you donāt have access to ACORN yet, donāt assume the worst! Theyāll take some time over the next little bit I imagine.- 997 replies

Last name S. Not sure about other folks. Also - the official admissions letter hasnāt arrived in SGS yet, although based on past years, it takes a few days between ACORN being updated and SGS.- 997 replies

no problem! a thought just occurred to me - maybe because youāve submitted applications previous years they arenāt sending out new JoinIDs and you are expected to continue using the same ACORN portal? (this is my first year applying to UofT)- 997 replies

hmmm, i got an email with my JoinID in december so i would imagine way before they were doing admissions ? curious though. if you havenāt received one, i wouldnāt stress about it though because i donāt think having a JoinID is a deciding factor right now! but maybe you could follow up with angela later on? or check your junk!- 997 replies

you would have gotten an email a couple weeks after you submitted your application with information about a UofT JoinID - this login gives you access to ACORN!- 997 replies

Hopping in here to wish everyone well! I am a UofT Advanced Standing hopeful ... my understanding is that UofT released their decisions in the first week of March the last two years, so we're almost there! Someone I know who is currently in the UofT 2-year program got their decision end of February ... so the 2-year folks only got a couple more weeks I bet. Best of luck!- 997 replies
