  1. @TerribleTowelThank you! Yeah I would imagine the same visiting days so you’re probably right… good to know that the $$ is on the low end. La Jolla is too pricy for a low stipend!
  2. @TerribleTowelOh yeah maybe then! I though nobody had heard back who applied for the joint Poli Sci public policy PhD but I’ve not been monitoring as religiously once March hit?
  3. @irapplicant123 I am also waiting… getting tired of it but it’s the last school I’m waiting for at this point. I can’t see how they’d do a visit day this late in the game.
  4. Hi everyone - I have a somewhat basic question. What do PhD students do their first summer in terms of rigid scheduling? Are there summer teaching requirements or anything similar? I am planning a wedding for summer 2024 and really need to set a date lol
  5. @Isolate both have released results but there seems to be not that many results. I’m not sure if that’s a product of people not posting them as much this year or if the results aren’t totally out, but I feel like most schools send results in one day rather than batches.
  6. @PolGradMy understanding is that less schools offer funding for Masters but Columbia is pretty top notch so they may offer something! I didn’t apply to any Masters programs so I’m not entirely sure on that though. I plan to visit a few of the schools in March and April to get a feel for it. Stanford’s funding is particularly generous, which is hard to turn down!
  7. @PolGradi got an email from Columbia today recommending I apply for the Masters program (and rejecting from PhD). I don’t think I marked that I was interested in the Masters program but I may have done so accidentally.
  8. Claiming Stanford acceptance. I am literally in shock! I got a call from a member of the admissions committee. I’m IR (if helpful).
  9. Swing and a miss? although most things are indeed not popsicle so… not entirely wrong?
  10. @PolGradDefinitely lucky - I had some incredibly supportive professors to encourage me through the process (several of whom had similar backgrounds of coming into academia after a hiatus). They definitely are the type of Professor that I aspire to be like in my own career.
  11. @PolGradIt was painful to work a very time intensive job while applying for grad programs. Luckily I love IR and learning generally so didn’t mind studying for the GRE much- it actually helped reinforce my desire to be a life long learner and enter into this profession to begin with. I asked LOR from my graduate school- I don’t think I would recommend employers because they can’t speak to your academic abilities unless you are employed in research. I made sure to connect with professors back last May to begin conversations about academia and to help me along the process. My mentality is maybe I’ll get “no” because it is so competitive now adays but I’ll let them tell me that. I am not willing to reject myself.
  12. @AztecI love to hear of another successful application cycle for the come back kids! Good luck on the last two
  13. @Aztec I am currently employed in a different field (and have been out of undergraduate for some time) so I knew I would only get one shot at applications and applied quite broadly! Go big or go home (but literally in my case haha)
  14. Any educated guesses on when Stanford will come out?
  15. U Penn coming out today? I saw one waitlist on the results page.
