I haven't heard from UCI just yet but I'm seeing it as a soft rejection. 
I received a letter from Iowa with the standard "your manuscript was well-received" etc etc. It excited me very much last year when I received the same message verbatim but this year...eh. Just means I've become stagnant in my writing.
Time to keep practicing to get different results next application season  It'll be my fourth time applying, but every time I've been rejected I've learned something new about myself, and I don't believe I'll ever get anywhere with my writing until I've come to know who I truly am. 
Also, to those who are struggling this application round, I recommend the essay "On Self-Respect" by Joan Didion. It's a hell of a read.

It certainly puts things in perspective but I'm a bit troubled by the loss of interest in "these applications". For those that have already gone out, what will come will come - the die is cast. but if you are still applying, please remember, you will live with your grief for some time but it will become manageable before the fruits of many present labors. it's hard during a time of loss to keep going to work, paying the bills, doing what you have to. i feel you. 

Nothing from my two places just yet, but they have already begun calling people so I'm in acceptance of any outcome. 
My friend overdosed and passed away 8 days ago, so that's been a big reason why I've lost interest in these applications.

What genre are you? From what I can see on the Draft spreadsheet, fiction applicants reported interviews mid February and subsequently reported acceptances late February. If you were waitlisted but not interviewed, I don't think there's anything more for you to do except email the school with thanks and your strong desire to attend and any questions you have. Some schools interview only those they're immediately accepting and waitlist the remaining few they want. 
I'm so sorry to hear of your loss. Please take care of yourself as best as you can. ❤️ 

Congrats to the recent victories 😊 I always get a flash of envy when it comes to these things but it’s hard to last long when I see how excited y’all get. Truly an endearing sort of joy that is nice to see and sense. 
 
meanwhile I have yet to hear from UCI or Iowa but it’s cool it’s cool 😩😩 the news will come when it comes and I can’t do anything to control ittt aaaahhhhhhhhhhhh

Been lurking for a while but wanted to join in on the fun :^) It is an annoying stressful feeling to not have heard back from any schools yet, but it is kind of fun too, this suspense, and it will be all the more fun if I end up getting accepted somewhere lolol.
This is my third time applying. Last year I was waitlisted in one school, to no avail, and was given a nice note by my top choice that their readers liked my writing "very much" and hoped I would apply again if I didn't land anywhere. 
I really really hope I am accepted this year. I let myself fantasize about getting that phone call. If I don't get it I will be sad but of course there is no other option for me but to try again. I don't know if I shot myself in the foot or not but I only applied to two schools because those are the only ones that really call to me. Good luck to us all, yaaay.

Hey, welcome! I also only applied to 2 schools this year. I didn't want to spend hundreds on application fees and so focused on just the 2 that called to me and I (thought) I had a good chance with getting in. I am a tad envious of the people who were able to apply to 7+ schools. That's so impressive!

Hey. Sorry to hear you’re struggling.
 
But you are not experiencing “Ls,” you’re experiencing life. It’s not easy and you should be proud of yourself for getting this far despite your challenges. 
The grand fact of this career path is that it is often thankless and always grueling. I’m sure you know this. One year of rejections does not mean you’re in any corner. It just means you’ve been rejected this year.
I also have not been writing recently. Sometimes life gets in the way and we need to sort out more urgent matters than the nourishing of our creative spirit ??‍♂️ 
 
The challenges you are experiencing now are helping you grow, and you will be a better writer because of them. So don’t despair  you never know what the future holds. And, at the end of the day, do you write for a degree, or do you write because you love to write?
