I mean I got rejected by all schools like two years ago? Then I applied for more than 100 jobs and got into a consulting firm. But I've decided to go back to school after that since I felt like academia suited me better. You can always walk away from this shit and have the confidence that you can still come back after several years. Just give yourself a break!

So, I double checked with the department, and I claimed an offer to the CP track at the UMich. I'm not sure whether the joint program has released results or not, though.
-
I apply for both CP and the joint program (they allow applications for more than one program). Not sure which program I am admitted to because the offer letter didn’t specify.

Never assume rejection until you see it with your own eyes! I don’t think Georgetown interviews every single applicant that they feel adequate, based on posts from previous years. But I didn’t apply to NYU so I don’t know.

Yes. Your stipend will be taxed (federal income tax + state income tax if any).

Great question! I have a master degree from a US institution. The committee told me that they were impressed by my writing sample, but somehow my GRE writing score was 4.0 (54% percentile? I can't remember). So, they decided to ask me to explain. I simply told them that the GRE score was wrong because the grad school didn't match my score correctly. So... I don't know. Maybe they just need more signals. Maybe a good writing sample is not enough to some committee members. Maybe they are concerned that this good sample is a result of help from someone else. Who knows?

Yep don't feel discouraged. Maybe they feel like you can simply pass the admission bar with confidence. I was once interviewed by another school, who told me that they were concerned about my writing skills as an international applicant. I reassured them by telling them that I retook GRE and my writing score should be 5.0. And then they let me go and gave me the offer. It really depends.

I was also interviewed by all POIs that I mentioned in my SOP for Georgetown. The reason that I got the interview was that, according to one of my POIs, none of them were on the admission committee. So, they were asked to weigh in when I made it to their short list. I guess if your POIs happened to be on committee or they felt like your materials were adequate for them to make a decision, you wouldn't be interviewed...

A phone call? What is this 2000s renaissance...!
-
That‘s right. I was interviewed by a committee member for like 15 minutes.
-
Yes I’m on CP track. But I prefer not to state my masters program to keep anonymous. Sorry about that!
-
Thank you all! I’m an international applicant but is doing a masters degree in a US institution so all my letters are from US faculty members. $42k is an astonishingly generous package I’d say. I didn’t expect it at all.
-
Email to check applyweb. An official letter issued by grad school, stating a $42k package but without details.
-
Claim that acceptance. CP track.

I TOTALLY AGREE. I mean we pay the fees and adhere to the deadlines. Why can't these schools just be more efficient and set a firm deadline of sending out results?
-
Yep I agree. I don't think it's usual the case that polisci students apply for more than 20 schools. So, no worries and keep our fingers crossed!
-
Yep! More than $3,000! I was bankrupted! Cancelled all my holiday trips and had to cook at home...
-
I also apply to more than 30 programs! It's maybe just my insecurity that pushed me to do so...
-
Later last week.
-
I believe this is just internal knowledge. And my friends know the short list has been made, yet they didn't see the list and neither did they know who's on the list.
-
I have friends who're in the department doing PhDs. They all confirmed that.
-
I can tell Michigan has compelled their final short list, but I'm not sure about whether they'll send out offer letters this week.
-
So sorry to hear! I'm sure you'll have better offers! But this is indeed super weird... considering the number of applicants that UCSD may have, it doesn't make sense that we've only seen one result so far... yet maybe this is because you're super strong and they felt like they're obligated to notify you first?
-
Here! I'm anxious since they've sent two rounds of rejection...
-
I received an email on Jan 22 and did the interview a few days later...
