My current strategy is to try and ignore this process for as many hours as humanly possible. I've been trying to limit my fruitless logins and refreshes to 10 a day by keeping score, but most importantly, doing other things! Focusing on the people and activities around me - rather than the looming virtual abyss of an institution somewhere I would potentially attend in the future.
And when I feel I really want to immerse myself into this world of academia that I am so passionate about (and the reason I'm so desperate to hear back), I read more about my field and soak in that knowledge and those mechanisms that I find so fascinating.
That practise especially helps me to put things into perspective; maybe I'll be accepted this year, but if not, I can find another way to do this for a living and fulfil this dream.
