I've been accepted to two programs so far, and I had one professional rec letter for one program, and two for another (art history and art and museum studies programs, respectively).
Though, my goal is to do museum work, and my letter writers both worked in art museums. If you are curious about specifics just pm me--I'm a little wary about posting so much info on public boards, but if it would help you out it's no problem!
This gave me the terrible idea do look up my horoscope for today: "Today, Aries, you may think about competition and possible future goals. Imagining and dreaming can serve you well. What did you dream about as a kid? Who did you want to become? Are you close to this in your life now? If not, is this all right for you? Take time to think such things through and, if need be, get back on the right track."
WHAT!!! When I was a kid I wanted to be an astronaut. Too little too late, horoscope!
Aberdeen is really nice--sort of a surfy Scottish town of sorts. Scotland's education system is great, and certain programs in Scottish universities are definitely tops, depending on your field (I don't know much about anthro...). Glasgow and Edinburgh are really well regarded within academia, and I believe as long as Aberdeen has a strong department you can't go wrong.
I think UK pedagogy in general has much more of a focus on student independence. If you need a really close relationship with an advisor, the US might be a better choice for you. If not, you could very well thrive in a Scottish environment. It depends on what you want! I would suggest emailing the dept. and asking to be put in contact with some current students, so you can learn more.
Good luck with your decisions!
I am fearing the worst. It says the info is correct as of today, which I can only take as a not great sign. Also, looks like someone perhaps already got in with similar interests, so it doesn't bode well.
Nevertheless, I persevere! Good luck raksasa!
Congrats to all the UT Austin admits!!
I am super jealous/obsessively checking my email....I fear this is a bad sign re: my application, but am trying to think positive.
Did you get an email to check the website?? I have checked my application status about a billion times since I got home from work 20 minutes ago, but nothing. Aahhhh!!!
That is Sylvester, the cutest rabbit EVER.
and my turtle laid eggs, and they just hatched, so obsessing over baby turtles has been a pretty good way to get my mind off of checking my email a million times a day:
Ugh to be quite honest I am just worried about getting in. Celebrate any good news first, worry about logistics later! I'm mostly not counting on financial aid across the board, as I am only applying to master's programs, and usually it's reserved for the phd students.
Bahhhhh!! Has anyone else heard from UT Austin?? It's one of my top choices and I won't be able to do anything today now that I know they've started notifying. To the person who posted on the results page, did you get an email asking you to check the website??
UCLA website: "The M.A. is awarded in partial fulfillment of the requirements for the Ph.D. The department does not admit students who wish to work solely towards the master’s degree."
You almost gave me a heart attack, thinking I missed out on applying to a school I'd love to go to.
I'm applying for M.A. programs to start next fall. It's hard to find a good program that I personally think would be worth my time and money (since they are usually largely unfunded). I'm from SD and currently living here during my year in between undergrad and grad, but ended up applying mostly to schools on the east coast because there are more programs out that way.
