  1. Here. declined 3 programs that I am sure I won't attend.
  2. Here. One matching faculty reached out, it doesn't seem like a generic offer so there's probably more to come. Really happy rn.
  3. Yeah the rej is delayed because they would select some of the rejs and send out an offer for a partially funded terminal MA program
  4. I don’t think Princeton do wl
  5. Umich has sent out an exactly the same rej letter as last year lol; talk about money down the drain
  6. Not me in the result page but am accepted at NYU; also accepted at WUSTL and Emory. Pretty happy about this one for a very good fit; but I will be starting PhD 3 years after undergrad.
  7. Hey is anyone here familiar with the social science program in CalTech? Thanks!
  8. I heard early Feb, could extend to mid.
  9. As a second-time applicant I just want to point out that this year’s mood seems unnecessarily intense. Remember: your result is going to be released on your end. No one here can change that. Other people telling you (free of charge) their accept/rej is a potentially informative message for you that you may or may not benefit from. If you don’t believe it, you could always walk away. On a more general note, this should be a friendly community; it is the way it is because we don’t ask too much from other people and show true appreciation when they offer advice/support. It’s not a place to dump your anxiety on others by throwing very personal comments or pushing potential audience to forfeit their offer before its due.
  10. I didn’t see it instantly but to be fair they did say that the offer was issued on Friday.
  11. Did u revive an informal offer? Congrats
  12. I second that; some people got into their top program first and the withdrawal is a no brainer- but many of us will get admits in several similarly ranked programs with differing levels of desirability in location, cohort size, faculty fit. That’s really not a quick decision to make and it is unfair for them to rush into any life decision that defines at least their next 5-7 years when they very much earned the chance to be hesitant.
  13. I had one recently and I bombed it bc I forgot some model setup from my writing sample on the spot; I got questioned for ~30 mins about it and didn’t really deliver a good answer by the end. I think many people out there would say that faculties don’t read ur writing sample carefully and you should mostly be prepared to pitch ur identity and SOP quickly, I would caution against that.
  14. Exactly my point; even Oxbridge is not unconventional top 2 how can one school say that it should be top 3 in Asia lol- Although I do believe that the UIC analysis is very convincing, probably just a typo situation
  15. I do wonder what will be the unconventional top 3 universities in Asia lol
  16. I have seen some fresh rejs from UCSD but am I the only one not receiving the email OR any portal updates by now? I even checked my spam folder lol...1a/1i/17p
  17. Your guess is as good as mine. I do believe my LoR writer should be changed, but that is hardly the single reason. I won’t say the changed I made are the single reason behind any difference(if any) between the two cycles. The admission process is stochastic by nature. Plus, I don’t apply to programs whose offer I won’t accept. Hope this helps.
  18. I am applying again this year from a disastrous last cycle: 17 schools, all rejects, not even one waitlist. I wouldn't be here if not for the fact that many professors had been kindly encouraging me to apply again, all 3 of my letter writers have submitted to 20 schools by now. I just submitted my application for most of the programs, and this is the last time I will be applying. This is no doubt an emotional moment for me, as I am standing at the first crossroads of my life. Almost all of my undergrad+grad life has been preparing me for academia and I have put almost all of my energy into becoming a good scholar; I wish the best for everyone here, especially myself, for I hope I have sufficient courage to survive the worst outcome.
  19. Anyone received the decision of dean’s scholarship at MAPSS? They say it’s going to be released in early April.
  20. Did everyone at this forum receive formal rejection from NYU?
  21. Honestly I felt that was implied when I was communicating with my school list, will ask for explicitly a strong letter if I decide to stay in the academia
  22. uhh receiving the same aid package that MAPSS gave me two years ago after receiving (and excelling) similar training in a similar oriented program…very convinced that I had a very negative letter at this point. plus, 🤬 Chicago…
  23. Just received all rejection from safeties(not even shortlisted, no interview, no wl)- I think this is the end of my application season and I grew more and more puzzled when I hear other people’s admission results. Many of my graduate cohort got into decent programs with lower grad GPA and lower GRE score. I know I have a pretty decent writing sample and I have at least two very strong letters from this institution (one was really surprised that I didn’t get any ad and recommended all the top programs for me to apply; the other is my thesis supervisor who consistently gives me support and advice) the third one was nice when I asked for the letter, comply with the deadline promptly but never follows up, wasn’t even surprised when I told him I need to apply for more schools. Really suspecting that he didn’t write me a good one.
  24. I am applying for things now and asking for RA openings from everyone I know. as someone who has no ad so far, I think it is better to start preparing now than later- what's to lose if you do get an offer? I think it helps anxiety a lot, and in general it is good to prepare for the worst. If you don't have any offer, these efforts might be saving you. I have 7 left other than rejection and presumed rejection (no wl)- but they are all extremely competitive ones (harvard, yale, stanford, cornell, upenn, ucsd, ucla). Also thinking about applying to programs in Australia and France, some of them are still open and have funding.
