  1. This comment ruffled my feathers a bit, I have to say. I'm not in a hurry at all: if I have the same credentials as other applicants, and I know this is my next step, why should I be discouraged to apply? As other folks have pointed out, too, my age is actually much more suited to the Poetry programs I applied to. I am much happier having applied to places and receiving decisions than I ever would have if I didn't apply at all when I was able to, because I'd be left wondering what those decisions could have been. All in all, if I know this is the path I want to take and I have the opportunity to take it I'm going to take it. At no point do I consider it worthwhile to discourage an applicant from at least trying for something they know they want to achieve. This is an entire read and I'm here for it lol
  2. I can only find three fiction acceptances that date back to early February. one candidate turned down their offer and another one looks to be weighing their options. No news of other programs that I can see.
  3. I'm seeing waitlists for WVU's Poetry program! Congrats to everyone that has heard anything! I haven't heard anything, so this could change, but for now I am left to assume that I've officially been rejected by everyone. I'm not at all surprised, as I was only able to afford four applications, the odds are stacked against us, and this is my first round of applications coming straight from an undergrad program I completed two years early (actually had some programs refuse my application because I was 19, haha). I'll report the final result from WVU but for the most part I guess I'll just go back to lurking until the next forum opens. Good luck everyone and I'll hopefully see y'all next season! Final stats: 0a // 0wl // 3r (1 expected) // 1p (expected rejection)
  4. It looks like a few folks have reported WVU acceptances. They're the only school I have yet to hear back from, so I'll keep my fingers crossed for a call or an email here soon. If I'm rejected, though... Let's just say I'm polishing up my resume as we speak, lol. Just wanted to float this by some of y'all-- my advisor and I had a meeting earlier today and she suggested I try getting funding for an MA in Literature and then go into an MFA in Writing from there. This might be worthwhile for me, as my background is in Environmental Studies. Has anyone else tried this, given thought to this, or have any opinions on the matter? Assuming I won't get into WVU, haha this decision would lead me to a) apply only for MA programs come Autumn, b) apply for both MA and MFA programs and see what happens, or c) decide it isn't worth the hassle and remaining loyal to the fever dream that is MFA applications. Thanks for the help!
  5. i loved UNCW's campus when i toured for my undergrad. Congratulations! Looks like a few folks heard from WVU in Draft; any updates here?
  6. yeah, i think it was just the programs i applied to maybe. I got fee waivers for Arizona and Vanderbilt but Oregon didn't respond to my fee waiver request email and West Virginia said they weren't able to waive mine. chances are I'll have better luck next year, but I definitely qualify even now.
  7. Rejected from Oregon State for Poetry. Currently 0a // 0wl // 3r // 1p. This week has been brutal. Keeping my fingers crossed for WVU but it looks like I'd better start prepping for applications next season (that is, if I'm able to afford to apply. Even sending out four applications this season ate up my savings, and I can't afford to keep going at this unfortunately). Did want to share on behalf of one of my friends // classmates who just got waitlisted at UF!
  8. I heard back from U of Arizona last Monday, and I know of a few others who heard back right around that time too. Not sure about NYU or Rutgers.
  9. got the much-anticipated Vanderbilt Poetry rejection this evening while at a play! Looks like people are finally starting to get responses from Oregon State, but I haven't heard anything from them quite yet. It's just Oregon and West Virginia now... 🤞🥲 so far: 0a/0wl/2r/2p and a plan B offered to advance from my current position as an outdoor guide into a supervisory position.
  10. sorry for the very very late response-- i applied for WVU poetry as well and have not heard from them. Heard in Draft that it's likely we won't hear from them for another few weeks or so.
  11. still no response from Oregon State. if i'm not mistaken several folks heard back from them a few weeks back, so i guess it's safe to say that's another rejection too? not sure haha. is anyone elsse awaiting a response from them?
  12. I haven't heard from Oregon yet. Not sure if that's a good thing or a bad thing. Fellow rejected folks, let's make sure we treat ourselves today. Get that coffee, read that book, take that nap. Keep on keeping on. ?
  13. just received a rejection email from University of Arizona. It stings like a sonofagun, but congrats to everyone who made it in!
  14. congrats! still waiting to hear back from them so i'll keep my fingers crossed for a notification soon ?
  15. anyone else too nervous to actually, y'know, write? lol I finished my applications and dove straight into my undergraduate thesis and now that that's done I haven't been able to write a single word. Please tell me I'm not alone in this. My daily word count goal is giving the the side eye.
