nejjad, i have yet to see someone who is happy with CEU master programs. as you might know, their master degrees are not really recognized by some unis (such as boun) in Turkey, either. so going on with a PhD program might be a better choice. people at your uni (which is b.u. i assume) might have contacts in US schools, so you might ask them which schools to apply.. iyi sanslar

yeah, i emailed the departmental secretary and she replied within a few hours. i wonder if they have admitted any international students..

congrats to those who are in! msright, i am an int'l student, too and emailed the department after seeing the results here, someone said i was not admitted. good luck with your applications!

imo it's good to write such stuff on CV, some profs do that too, and you don't need to update the univs about the result of submissions unless it's an acceptance

oh sorry for this. it's just i am sick of waiting. well, looking at the last years' results, it seems they start contacting people during the second half of January. (i've also heard that anthropology people started hearing from UCLA, too)

hi, no one heard from UCLA? i think they should be calling those they admit, or they will soon..

getting no reply back from profs whose theories/works you have embraced in your past works and expressed this so in your email should be, imho, not a very good sign, especially if you plan working with them for your dissertation. it's a matter of responsibility and humbleness that make someone responsive to such things and if he/she does not show it at the beginning it might be risky later. Kcanuck, what are your research interests if i may ask?

hey kcanuck, my former degrees are in pol sci and hist, and i have applied to NYU soc, too. i've contacted two profs and they supported my application, noting that it's extremely competitive (?). i think it is not a big deal in US schools whereas Canadian schools ask for a previous degree in soc (at least UBC and Toronto do). good luck!

hi mlle, i think those online status pages are not frequently updated. my ucla application page still shows my materials missing (for almost a month now), yet the department emailed me after the deadline to confirm that the application is complete. you might try contacting the department. best

reputation concerns do not matter when the prof is unknown at the international level and just giving a signed envelope to a local student about whom he does not care enough. i will not waste my time on this any more. my first post was meant to share my opinion with the original poster, not to get some silly ego satisfaction.

maybe i used to be clueless about how people can be hypocritical. when i was an undergrad student yrs ago, i got a not-so-supporting LOR from a prof who talked very positive when i mentioned him about my applications then and i thought he'd really have a positive opinion about me, considering my course performance... anyway, the details are boring. people are not always that honest and good-faithed; having a PhD degree does not change this fact. some embrace the motto 'homo homini lupus' maybe you are clueless about the outside world.
