  1. Thanks cc139. Plz do inform me if you decide for LBJ..
  2. Thanks CC139 and Stella. To your query CC139: I am from Pakistan. Anyways, I have talked to people in the energy sector here in Pakistan and they hold UT-Austin in high regard. Now I am sure where to go, the LBJ.
  3. Hi everybody I am an international student and now leaning towards MPAff at LBJ. My other option is SPEA at IU-bloomington. I intend to concentrate in the energy policy/studies (mineral resources etc) and a touch of environment courses. Though SPEA offers specifically designed courses in energy as well as environment and it is also ranked very highly in the World News etc but still I know that UT-Austin is a more recognised brand in USA as well as my part of the world, and that it also offers good courses in energy etc. Besides that I have heard so much about the diversity in Texas and the warm weather that it has very much reinforced my interest in attending LBJ. However, in order to be more decisive (still a bit of doubt yet) is the job placement of LBJ grads in the international jobs- not US since I wont be staying in US after graduation. Specifically, how much are the chances for LBJ grads in the international instituitions such as UN, WB, IEA (specifically the energy related depts) etc. And that how is it regarded by consultancies and multinationals working around the world. I would appreciate if I get any kind of information just to make my decision easier and faster. Thanks a lot
  4. Dear all, Currently I am torn between SPEA (IU-Bloomington) and LBJ (UT-Austin) that which one should I notify of my acceptance for MPA. The world news ranking ranks IU bloomington in the top 5 while on the other hand in my part of the world UT-Austin has a better recognition (am international applicant). But then I have also viewed various threads advising of not relying on the rankings alone. I intend to concentrate on energy and natural resources for which both universities offer good courses. Please ignore the financial factors and advise me in terms of career prospects, networking and chances to get into international institutions such as UN etc . Thanks in advance

  6. Hi....I may also be heading to UT-Austin, the LBJ school. Since am an international student so have absolutely no idea about Texas and Austin as such. It sounds from the discussion that Austin is really a place worth living and that the town is tolerant enough for Asians and other international students. Am I right?.....any feedback please?
  7. Can any accepted international student to MPAff tell me the deadline to respond to the admission offer, please?
  8. Here is the 3rd one. I dont think they are not going to consider us for MPP. I clicked the check box for MPA2 as well but my embark status just told me that thanks for applying to the KSG. IMO the check box statement conveyed the message that if you are not accepted to MPP then would you like to be considered for MPA2. Besides that I have also mentioned in my statements that I am applying for the public policy for blah blah reasons. And so may you poeple have done. So I dont think we should worry about not being considered for MPP.
  9. You should search on this forum about the Universities to which your application has been sent by the IIE and see whether decisions for your intended department/program have been sent out. Because there many univerisites which havent yet finalized their admit decisions. However if you find out that decisions have been sent out but you havent heard anything about your decision then you better write to your fulbright office and ask their permission for writing directly to your contact at IIE. Hopefully it would solve your problem.
  10. I agree. It is really frustrating. I can feel it too since m in the same boat
  11. I think the grantees have to spend time back in their home countries equivalent to the tenure of the scholarship. For instance, 4 or 5 years PhD would entail the same number of years back at home country. thats what my letter said
  12. I have been lurking around for a while but now would like to add a few comments. I am also a fulbright Masters fellow and going through the same process of waiting to hear from universities. Overall seems like the fulbright program isn't much different country-wise except may be a few details. In my case too, once i was declared as winner of this scholarship I was asked to give out names of preferred universities to the IIE. I gave 6 names, three of my choices were accepted, and one they added on my behalf. Luckily got acceptance from one university, IU-Bloomington, though a reject from another. So now waiting to hear from rest of the universities. There is, however ,one thing that I have to agree with most fulbrighters on. IIE is really slow to notify you the acceptance but real fast at notifying rejection (I got news of rejection from one University within 3 days and the acceptance news reached me after a month!). Anyways I believe that Fulbright is really a great opportunity, and keeping in view the exposure that we gonna get with this opportunity, the small beaurocratic hassles shouldnt bother us much. Just my opinion. and Best of luck to all.
  13. Dont worry . They are talking about special talent
