  1. My SO received the Rutgers PhD acceptance into a Pharmacology program. However, there was no info on financial aid or any detailed letter sent out. We are assuming most programs require acceptance by 4/15, but given there was no detailed info sent out, we aren't sure when the deadline is. Has anyone received info in similar program and know the deadline to accept the PhD offer? The application deadline was 3/1, so it was later than some other schools. She reached out to several program coordinators last week but didn't receive any info still. Wanted to see if anyone has info on stipend or deadline so we can plan... or if you even received any info. Thanks in advance!

  3. My SO started her PhD in Fall 2023, and we are on the West / East coast. She is planning to leave her PhD and get a Masters since the LDR is not conducive to the relationship and for long-term planning. Both of our families and my career is on the East Coast, and this is an option that would work (and she would like to continue her PhD on the East Coast). I wanted to help her figure out how the "Mastering out" works. We had a few questions: When is it appropriate to tell your program you will MS out? How do you go about telling your advisors without burning the bridge in the future? She would like to continue her PhD eventually on the East Coast. Do you have to pay for the MS (e.g., do they cut funding immediately if you tell them in the Fall vs waiting until the Spring?) [I know this is program dependent, but it is hard to ask her program directly since it might have repercussions] Is it better to tell them in Fall 2024 or Spring 2025? And then based on when you tell them, do you have to pay for any portion of it? If anyone can share their experiences or are willing to DM us in private, we would very much appreciate it!
  4. Hi! I am in a situation where my SO just started her first year of her PhD on the west coast. We met right after she applied to schools (nearly a year of dating), and I am on the east coast. So now the geography has made dating difficult and we are both older. For those of you who have transferred or know of others, we are curious of the timeline: Do you have to apply to a brand new program fresh in the fall to transfer? Can you apply to transfer at the end of the first year (spring) to look to transfer and start a new program in the fall? Or is this not likely? Will having funding from fellowships like NSF / NDSEG enable you get into a program easier? Let's say she does not apply to a new school in the fall but instead gets an NSF / NDSEG fellowship. Can she then reach out to schools in the spring and let them know she has funding to potentially start there (maybe with a streamlined app)? Would be great to hear from anyone has done this what they successfully did and any tips. Thanks!
