  1. PhD Computer Science UMD-College Park: accepted on April 13th ($18K/year for 2 years) [i am assuming that someone declined their admission offer and that offer went to me] Gatech: accepted on March 3rd ($19K/year) UNC-Chapel Hill: accepted on March 1st ($25K/year) UC Riverside: Got a strange email from one of their profs in the grad admin committee saying that they now have funds available to support me for the first two years. He said I should email them back if I am interested. $1500/month for 9 months. I had been rejected back in March. Rejected: UW Seattle, WUSTL, UCSB, Columbia, UCLA.
  2. Email here: suzzette@cc.gatech.edu I am assuming that you applied to the CoC (College of Computing).
  3. Can anyone post the US News and World Report Rankings for 2008 in Computer Science (Systems)?
  4. Program: PhD CS Research area of interest: Networks Accepts (first the good news): GaTech, UNC, UofT Rejects (now the bad news and a long list): UW-Seattle, Columbia, WUSTL, UCSB, UC-Riverside, UCLA Wait-listed (kept me hanging): UMD-College Park Waiting (in the limbo): USC <- pretty sure won't go there. Will they send me a refund, if I withdraw my application? Anyone in the Networking area got into these universities??
  5. Computer science - PhD program UCLA - waiting (they said they are reviewing my application) USC - waiting (reviewing) UMD College Park - waiting (don't know what's going on) UNC Chapel Hill - accepted GaTech - accepted UCSB - rejected UC Riverside - rejected UCSD - rejected Washington Seattle - rejected Columbia - rejected
  6. Email them. Emailing doesn't affect your chances. I did and got updates on my application.
  7. I received an admit offer from GaTech this morning. The letter was a preliminary version and an official version will follow soon. The letter more dealt with funding rather than congratulating me that I have been admitted. So, I have been promised $19.5 K/year and a reduced tuition of $600 per semester. Can anyone (who has received an offer from GaTech) tell me what kind of funding they are receiving? This is what I received: ----------------------------------- We are pleased to offer you a 37.5 percent time Graduate Assistantship for the Fall Semester 2007, Spring Semester 2008, and Summer Semester 2008. The annual stipend in this position is $19,500.00. In addition students holding graduate assistantships pay significantly reduced tuition and fees of approximately $600.00 per semester. Please note that this offer is valid only for the specific major school, degree program and terms indicated. Students holding a 37.5 percent appointment are expected to work 15 hours per week while carrying a full-time course load (a minimum of 9 hours of coursework at the letter grade and/or pass fail basis in fall and spring, 6 hours in summer). In addition, it is required that all students holding assistantships register for CS 8997 (Graduate Teaching Assistantship) or CS 8998 (Graduate Research Assistantship) hours so that their schedule reflects a total of 18 hours in fall and spring, 15 hours in summer. We anticipate continuing to support your graduate studies with an assistantship at approximately the same level, subject to your satisfactory progress in the program, as determined by an annual review. Students who continue in the program past the qualifying exam may receive higher pay subject to the availability of funds. After the first year, we will assist you in finding an appropriate Research Assistantship or Teaching Assistantship assignment. During summers, you are encouraged to seek research assistantships or internships at corporate or government labs. The College may have a limited number of summer teaching assistantships available as well. We provide resources and individual guidance in helping you acquire interesting summer internships. As a graduate assistant, you will be expected to devote full time to your studies and assistantship duties. Participation in other employment activities requires prior approval of the College. Please note that the Georgia Institute of Technology requires all teaching assistants to be proficient in the English language. If you are designated as a teaching assistant for the fall, you must demonstrate the ability to communicate adequately in English in order to receive the assistantship. If you are unable to do so, your assistantship and stipend may be withheld until you are able to demonstrate adequate communication skills. Please confirm your acceptance of this appointment by completing and returning the enclosed acceptance letter and employment information forms as soon as your plans are finalized. Since resources are limited, please notify us of your decision as soon as possible. If you are unclear about any of the policies and procedures outlined in the enclosed packet or have questions regarding your appointment, feel free to contact the CoC Graduate Programs Office for guidance. -------------------------
  8. Received an admission offer from GaTech. They are giving me 37.5 percent TAship (19.5K/year). I haven't yet received an email inviting me to come to their Grad Visit Day. Anyone like me? Also, received a reject from Columbia.
  9. Email them. I also hadn't received any response on my application status. I emailed them and received the rejected response. The website is also updated. I think if you didn't receive an offer from them in Feb, chances are that you may have been rejected.
  10. I emailed USC and they told me "Your application is still being reviewed. We will email You as soon as deicison is made." Anyone hear from USC?
  11. I have applied to the PhD Computer Science program in the following universities for Fall/2007 (I have only heard from two of them as of 1 March 07) : 1. U of Washington Seattle (Rejected, 10% accept rate) 2. UNC-Chapel Hill (Accepted, 15% accept rate, 26K/year assistanceship, tuition waiver) [grad visit is from 23-25 March] 3. UCSB 4. UC Riverside 5. USC 6. UCLA 7. UCSD [uCSD's grad visit is from 15-16 March. So should I expect that I have been rejected?] 8. UMD-College Park 9. Columbia 10. GaTech Has anyone heard from any of these universities? I know Washington-Seattle has rejected many applications, but I have no clue about the others. The problem is that the online systems of these universities convey no information at all. Should I email requesting status on application? Who should I email? Last time I emailed, I got no response. Columbia seems to have a two phase admission process. In the first phase they accept those applicants whom they definitely want and reject those they don't want for sure. In the second phase they make up their mind about the remaining applicants. Am I right?
