  1. I agree 100%; there are a lot of condescending, patronizing, and petty vibes this year. Oh, and by the way, please don't let me, the most powerful voice in academia, threaten you and tell you what to do. Guys, I'm out of this forum for good. It's absolutely mindblowing that you are seriously discussing what I said, in good faith, as a general recommendation three days ago. I wish you all the best, for real, and from the bottom of my heart, I hope you understand the dimensions of the journey you are about to start. The best to all.
  2. It's fine, I'm sorry, I'm a bit stressed out. πŸ™
  3. I'm not talking about you, personally πŸ™„β€”just a general recommendation, if you wish. There is no need to explain anything; we are all grown-ups, and everyone knows exactly what they do, how they do it, and the decisions they make. πŸ€·β€β™‚οΈ Also, I know not all programs have a waitlist, so there is no need to clarify what is known.
  4. I want to take a moment to remind you all to reject the offers from the universities you are sure you won't attend... to get things moving on the waitlist. No pressure, though; just if you are entirely sure you are not going to accept a particular offer, reject it formally. Don't leave it to the last minute. Let's help each other.
  5. Congratulations to all accepted into Wisconsin!
  6. LMAO, wtf with the Northwestern acceptance on the results page. πŸ˜πŸ’€
  7. Next week (or the week after that).
  8. This. Email them. In this case, it is absolutely justified.
  9. This is my understanding, too; that's why I was amazed to see Michigan almost banning it (lmao) all the way from the GSAS and not letting the individual Departments choose. Still, I'm curious about how the specific admission process works when it's optional (but the fit being the single most prevalent factor makes sense).
  10. I want to ask something to the void, and I hope a Professor is reading this and can answer my question (very generically, if you wish to). Since many departments are making the GRE optional for applicants, I understand how admissions works when the GRE isn't accepted - everyone is evaluated on the same set of materials. But I'm unclear about how admissions committees weigh applicants when some submit GRE scores and others don't. I might be wrong, but if two candidates are otherwise equal, the GRE score gives someone an advantage (?). I get the """holistic""" approach and etc. but still.
  11. Y'all, I get that you probably don't want to disclose your subfield in the forum, but at least do it on the results page; I think it would be helpful to get the whole picture.
  12. Why? I'm not the best person to give this advice, lol. However, wait until they confirm that you are rejected; probably, you are waitlisted, or maybe they release their decision in batches.
  13. My subfield is Comparative, but thank you a lot for this. Sometimes, it is important to remind ourselves of this.
