  1. Dal has around 35 seats for both programs...that's a 7% acceptance rate 🥲 Someone could've legit been top 10% of applicants but still not have gotten in So another reminder that an acceptance does not define your worth! Doesnt matter if, next year, you're attending an SLP/Audio program, improving your application or discovering a new path, either way, you'll continue to grow and learn as a person! It's all part of the process, its never the end, just one path of many ❤️
  2. He was able to see what they wrote about him!? Thats awful that a prof would do that IMO... Its "funny" timing that I just suggested that maybe reference letters arent that important 😅 This goes to show how unpredictable it is in knowing what the schools are looking for and think its wild how secretive they are about it 😅 Adds so much unnecessary stress
  3. I can't answer all your questions but I do have some thoughts on the reference letters. This may not be super up to date info since I applied back in 2021, but for my application, my reference letters were pretty weak lol. I cant even remember who wrote them for me. I went to York, and my smallest 4th-year class had 60 people in it. I enjoyed my time there but did not make any close relationships with any profs. I am pretty sure I asked profs that I only had one class with. And in the end I got several acceptances! So all in all, I think that references, at least when I applied, were not heavily weighted. My guess from talking to classmates and scrolling these forums every year since my application cycle, grades and diverse volunteer experience are the key things. And my educated guess is that Western prioritizes experience over grades which I think works in your favour. I had like 14 hours of aphasia volunteering and I got accepted to Western Aud but 4th quadrant waitlist and eventual rejection from Western SLP...and I think getting more than 14 hours is hopefully manageable 😅 In the end, I think its great that you're weighing various factors. It's not easy to figure out what direction you want to take your life in. SLP is a wonderful career, but there are many great ones out there as well. SLP may be worth pursuing or there may be better paths that suit your situation better. Im wishing you positive vibes and luck!!
  4. Hi Everyone! I'm a 3rd year audio student at Dal and I'm just poking my head in to say hi! I went through it myself and every year have come back to help out in anyway I can, I know this is a stressful time 😅 I had another account, 2nd Year Dal Student or something, but naturally I got locked out 🥴 Anyway, some basic info: From Toronto, did a BA in Psych. Got accepted to U of T SLP, Dal SLP & Aud and Western Aud. Waitlisted at McGill and Western SLP, rejected by McMaster. This is something I posted on the forum last year that I think is worth reposting, hope it helps with perspective: I have two pieces of advice as you prepare your applications that is outside of your applications: 1) stay busy, stay distracted, and cultivate other aspects of your life outside of school so that even if you dont get accepted, you can more easily recognize parts of your identity outside of being a prospective SLP student. Because remember, you are more than these applications! You are a full human being and acceptances are important, but they do not define you. So if you get in, yay! If you don't, well this is all part of the journey, you haven't failed since this all you are. 2) This will likely be unpopular: do not ask people who have been accepted what their scores/stats were. Their scores in no way can effectively give you any indication if you will be accepted and what you are most likely doing is comparing yourself to the top of the class. Certain schools may lean more heavily on certain aspects of an application, but they do consider apps holistically. Schools don't send out acceptances linearly by going down sGPA and caspr scores, thats just not how it works. Plus, each school has a different criteria that we may have inklings but dont truly know what they look at. For example, I got immediately rejected from Mac (my sGPA was too low to even get an interview) yet I got an acceptance from U of T April 1st. I also got 3 waitlists, McGill, Western and Dal, yet I only got off the waitlist for Dal. There was NO way for me to have predicted these results if I compared my sGPA to other people I assure you. Trust me, I hate how schools leave you in the dark and you're just trying to get some sliver of info, but I assure you that it is not productive. Anyway, let me know if you have any questions about applications or the Dal program, Im happy to help in anyway I can
