I have talked to people at both programs and they’re lovely at both places. Faculty are great at both places as well, stipends are pretty equal. COL a bit higher in one place but not significant enough to be a worry. At one program, I’d have 3 years, get a lot of teaching experience but health insurance isn’t covered… at another I have 2 years but a light teaching load and amazing healthcare. It’s like apples and oranges at this point

Is anyone else currently torn between two programs and has no idea how they’re going to choose in less than 5 days ?! (Any advice?!) That and my anxiety is convincing me that if I don’t decide soon they’re going to rescind their offers altogether. Feeling pressure to have decided already. I am so so grateful for having any options to consider in the first place and I know I do not take that privilege for granted, but it just is a difficult decision especially this year with so much more at stake currently

on this episode of me discovering new layers of pros and cons to my very similar offers rn: googles “how strict is [name of state program is in] with cannabis” yall have I lost it

for folks with funded offers currently that are still on waitlists for programs they likely won’t hear from until April 14th/15th… how are you going about your decision? I have two offers currently that I’m weighing, but I don’t want to wait UNTIL the 15th to decide… but might need to. However, the school I’m waiting for an update on is a really cool program that id likely accept. feeling pressure to decide soon and want the decision to be done with but I feel like I can’t confidently choose between these two offers right now without knowing the outcome of my third school (the waitlist).

So I love the faculty at both. I did feel like I *connected* more with idaho faculty, specifically but the people at both places are all amazing and I know I’d thrive in either environment. I think OSU offers more of a variety of courses, which I love, and the quarter system actually allows for me to take workshop 6x and craft courses 6x, which is sort of amazing and kind of makes up for the less time I think. the political climate of idaho DOES worry me, but I know the town and campus itself is fine. I’m actually considering living in Pullman, Washington for healthcare reasons, and I think that would be slightly better. But yeah, still, Oregon is much more green and vibrant, and idaho would be more of a good place to intensely focus for three years - no distractions, very rural and quiet. it’s so tough! When it comes down to the nuts and bolts it’s like how do you even choose. I appreciate the insight

Hi friends!! hope everyone’s hanging in there. Hoping good news comes your way this week if you’re still waiting on programs. @everything bagel lover sending you all the good vibes and luck for CSU funding!!! 🤞🏻 im currently torn between two great programs. Idaho and Oregon state. Faculty and courses/community at both is amazing, and I know they’re both great choices. Teaching load is a bit higher at idaho but I honestly don’t really mind that. Idk how I’m supposed to choose 😔 right now, I’m mostly trying to figure out if I would like a two year program or a three year, as that’s the biggest difference between both and the only “con” I can find for osu. I always said I’d only go to a 3 year program now I’m thinking 2 wouldn’t be so bad. I keep thinking what if I can’t write a manuscript in that time, or I have less options post grad, but I don’t think any of that is true. Anyone have any thoughts on this specifically, or anything to add about either of these programs?
-
Yes also idaho is taking 5 nonfiction students this year and last year they had 2
-
penalized! how so?😭
-
pros of a 2 year program?
-
Any thoughts on idaho? program seems wonderful and I love the faculty, I just keep saying to myself do I really wanna live in the middle of nowhere for 3 years? But then again it can’t be that bad, probably good to focus on my work… also people live in Iowa, so…. its also a 2:2 teaching load but the more I talk to current students that doesn’t seem too off putting. It seems manageable any thoughts on living there or the program?!

out of curiosity: has anyone been accepted off a waitlist yet this season?
-
perhaps a silly question but, alas… for waitlisted folks, will we be notified when current offers are accepted? is it safe to assume if we haven’t heard anything yet, that spots are still pending?
-
just turned down an offer that I really wanted to make work, in literally my dream location and with a lot of really great program components… but ultimately I didn’t think that the faculty there were the right fit for me and my work and I believe I’ll get more/better support and mentorship at a different program. on paper this program was perfect but I just can’t for some reason look past these weird vibes with the faculty. it’s bittersweet, especially not knowing where I’ll be ending up but I hope I made the right call because it’s so hard to feel good about any of this or know what’s “right” sigh. 😔😫

I’m also waiting on them for cnf. Did you hear anything back from them yet about waitlist size?
-
Hi! What genre are you? And do you mean Oregon state or Ohio? I don’t think there will be waitlist movement until after the first week of April. A lot of schools have spring breaks this week or next, and then AWP is end of March. My assumption is accepted students weekends will likely be early April- after that we should see movement!
-
I’m curious how do they decide who to fund Also they only admit 5 students total? Or is it 5 per genre and 2 funded per genre
-
ooooh i see. yeah I’ve only heard good things about this program and it’s community. I just feel like if I know not everyone’s funded equally it might make for a tense or competitive atmosphere, no? what are people’s thoughts on this
-
CSU folks…does anyone know how many students they fund/how many are offered GTA positions? I always thought this was a fully funded program!! kinda don’t like that they don’t fund everyone?? also curious bc it slipped my radar this year but what do folks like about this program in particular? I might consider it for next year (I love CO)
-
does anyone have any info on Oregon states waitlist size ? or any info at all I haven’t heard anything back from them since I emailed a few weeks ago
-
do we know if unlv is done notifying? there’s been a few random notifs in draft but nothing besides that. Are they normally that spread out? Also does anyone have info on when Rutgers-Camden typically notifies?
-
that’s great! It’s such a hard decision so I’m wishing you the best of luck! 💕 always happy to chat on here as you weigh your choices and weigh pros and cons, as I’m deliberating some of the same cnf programs!
-
congrats! WVU seems like a really cool/great program! Where are you still waiting to hear from? I also got into idaho and I’m on the waitlist at Oregon state (which is my dream) so we have some overlap it seems! how are you feeling about those 3 schools and do you have a top choice right now? Idaho seems really great so far 😊
-
Yes it came with my acceptance. My best guess is they might be waiting to see if any offers are declined then they’d have more $! it is very stressful but I have my fingers crossed for you!
-
FWIW I got an acceptance Friday from CSU for cnf, I got the impression they don’t fully fund everyone/ not everyone with funding has a GTA. So delay in acceptances could be from that. I know of 4 cnf accepted students only 2 of us have a GTA, and out of 12 accepted students there were 2 or 3 offers without funding sent out

I’ve seen that post! I just didn’t know if that was standard to he asking all those sorts of questions on an initial acceptance call. Thought they were meant to be brief and sort of a vibe check as well? Anyone have any experiences they can share of acceptance calls?
