Just got an acceptance in poetry for Miami University (in Ohio). Turning down, but just writing here in case anyone was on the lookout for them! -

Congrats!!! UIUC was my top choice, but I went with my gut on Oregon. Turns out, they only accepted 1 from the waitlist for poetry, so it wouldn't have mattered anyways! -

Where at?! Congrats! And aside—I accepted my (poetry) offer from the University of Oregon on April 1. I think the poetry cohort has now been finalized. Where my people at?! -

Congrats! If you have questions about Bloomington, feel free to DM. Good luck finding housing! My landlord asked me if I was going to renew for August 2024 on January 2 this year. -

Not disagreeing, but the usual creative writing program director is on sabbatical, so a professor from a different department had to step in as the interim-director. That might have something to do with it, unfortunately. -

I'm still waiting on UIUC fwiw. (poetry) SIU had some acceptances from what I saw on draft. They might not've posted it on the spreadsheet, but someone was already fairly committed to attending, I think for poetry, but I could be wrong! edit: the SIU acceptance was from mid-february. -

I declined my Houston offer (in poetry) yesterday, but from the phone calls I had, it seemed like funding was a bit in flux, as their English department was asked to restructure their writing courses (AKA the ones grad students teach). Initially, I was told they were admitting 3 in poetry MFA, 3 in fiction MFA, 3 in poetry PhD, and 3 in fiction PhD. I wouldn't be surprised if they figured out a way to fund additional students, since that was the low-end of their normal cohort size. That being said, if you have to reneg on an offer, it is what it is. People do it. -

I got an acceptance during a school's spring break. It's impossible to know though; just depends on their faculty, who may be traveling or otherwise busy during the break. -

Congrats, @Scribe! In terms of waitlists moving... I don't think their waitlists have even been finalized, but I plan to decline my offer from the University of Houston tomorrow. So, if someone gets in for poetry, thank me later! -

That is totally up to you. The deadline is April 15 (unless stated otherwise) so you are fully within your rights to wait until then to make your final decision. I wouldn't worry about it looking bad or anything! -

Not sure if anyone else is waiting on them, but I reached out to Miami University (in OH) and basically asked for a status update (since I'm not likely to attend either way). They said they'd know more in April when movement starts to happen... So I guess that means everyone who applied is waitlisted until their cohort is finalized? 😬 -

Waitlist movement happens until the cohort is finalized. Which is sort of a crappy answer, but it's true. Last year, I was rejected after not making it off the waitlist on 4/13. Some people have gotten off waitlists after 4/15. It just depends on many factors. -

Essentially, you pay a deposit to secure your spot when accepting an offer. If you want to reneg on that school after April 15, you'll lose your deposit and probably upset the program a lot! But people have done it and will continue to do it. You gotta do what is best for you, ultimately. -

Yeah, I got this too. No idea what that means. My Iowa rejection had no encouragement/praise whatsoever, so I think it was a tiered rejection. Your apps must've made it far in their deliberations! -

My limbo with Oregon State was actually a late waitlist! Woah! Will be turning it down though. Best of luck to those on it!
