  1. Waitlists follow after the initial offers, don't lose all hope yet! I think someone last year got waitlisted like 3-4 days after initial offers.
  2. I asked my friend there and they think all the initial offers might've gone out at the same time (for all genres).
  3. Hi poets — University of Oregon poetry decisions should be going out tomorrow! If it's like last year, waitlists will follow in the days afterwards. (I heard that fiction is still behind fyi).
  4. Just wanted to give you all a heads up... University of Oregon poetry decisions are still being worked on! Wasn't told when they'd be done, but it was "getting there". Stick in there, y'all!
  5. Just got an acceptance in poetry for Miami University (in Ohio). Turning down, but just writing here in case anyone was on the lookout for them!
  6. Congrats!!! UIUC was my top choice, but I went with my gut on Oregon. Turns out, they only accepted 1 from the waitlist for poetry, so it wouldn't have mattered anyways!
  7. Where at?! Congrats! And aside—I accepted my (poetry) offer from the University of Oregon on April 1. I think the poetry cohort has now been finalized. Where my people at?!
  8. Congrats! If you have questions about Bloomington, feel free to DM. Good luck finding housing! My landlord asked me if I was going to renew for August 2024 on January 2 this year.
  9. Not disagreeing, but the usual creative writing program director is on sabbatical, so a professor from a different department had to step in as the interim-director. That might have something to do with it, unfortunately.
  10. I'm still waiting on UIUC fwiw. (poetry) SIU had some acceptances from what I saw on draft. They might not've posted it on the spreadsheet, but someone was already fairly committed to attending, I think for poetry, but I could be wrong! edit: the SIU acceptance was from mid-february.
  11. I declined my Houston offer (in poetry) yesterday, but from the phone calls I had, it seemed like funding was a bit in flux, as their English department was asked to restructure their writing courses (AKA the ones grad students teach). Initially, I was told they were admitting 3 in poetry MFA, 3 in fiction MFA, 3 in poetry PhD, and 3 in fiction PhD. I wouldn't be surprised if they figured out a way to fund additional students, since that was the low-end of their normal cohort size. That being said, if you have to reneg on an offer, it is what it is. People do it.
  12. I got an acceptance during a school's spring break. It's impossible to know though; just depends on their faculty, who may be traveling or otherwise busy during the break.
  13. Congrats, @Scribe! In terms of waitlists moving... I don't think their waitlists have even been finalized, but I plan to decline my offer from the University of Houston tomorrow. So, if someone gets in for poetry, thank me later!
  14. That is totally up to you. The deadline is April 15 (unless stated otherwise) so you are fully within your rights to wait until then to make your final decision. I wouldn't worry about it looking bad or anything!
  15. Not sure if anyone else is waiting on them, but I reached out to Miami University (in OH) and basically asked for a status update (since I'm not likely to attend either way). They said they'd know more in April when movement starts to happen... So I guess that means everyone who applied is waitlisted until their cohort is finalized? 😬
  16. Waitlist movement happens until the cohort is finalized. Which is sort of a crappy answer, but it's true. Last year, I was rejected after not making it off the waitlist on 4/13. Some people have gotten off waitlists after 4/15. It just depends on many factors.
  17. Essentially, you pay a deposit to secure your spot when accepting an offer. If you want to reneg on that school after April 15, you'll lose your deposit and probably upset the program a lot! But people have done it and will continue to do it. You gotta do what is best for you, ultimately.
  18. Yeah, I got this too. No idea what that means. My Iowa rejection had no encouragement/praise whatsoever, so I think it was a tiered rejection. Your apps must've made it far in their deliberations!
  19. My limbo with Oregon State was actually a late waitlist! Woah! Will be turning it down though. Best of luck to those on it!
  20. Hey y'all, on mobile as I'm literally on the Amtrak train down to Eugene to visit UO. In for poetry at University of Houston!
  21. it was the same as mine. also, NOW University of Arizona rejections are out. Whoops, I guess I interpreted that as a handwritten note. 😓
  22. No! They definitely don't write that unless it made it to a later (or maybe the final) round of deliberation.
  23. I forgot to warn people about this! It said the same last year lmao. Is anybody going to tell them they look fucking terrible? Or should we just let them... keep doing that... maybe it's for the best.
  24. Is anyone else in limbo with Oregon State? I probably wouldn't attend, but it looks like everyone else was waitlisted/rejected for poetry by 2/27...
  25. I'm seeing a fiction waitlist for Montana logged on 3/2 on the Draft spreadsheet.
