  1. I’m agented and I’m getting an MFA because I want to teach. A lot of my fellow agented writer friends are getting MFAS to teach, because they are in between contracts and tbh some just want to sharpen their writing. I haven’t been accepted anywhere (lol) but if I am I wouldn’t work on any books that are currently in contact to be published during the program because I think that’ll be unfair honestly. I want to start fresh on something new and if that ends up being published one day then yay! My agent also said that it probably wouldn’t be a good idea anyway to work on a book that’s already been set to be published. all that to say being agented hasn’t given me a leg up as far being accepted into a program, also more than likely already agented folks are 9/10 working on new things that haven’t been put on submission yet.
  2. Fingers crossed for you as well 🫶🏽
  3. Also a black woman. Also didn’t want to apply to certain schools because of the area. I wasn’t butt hurt by Ole Miss because I didn’t want to live there anyway. Also probably won’t be hurt if Iowa says no because I also don’t want to live there as well. its such a tough spot to be in 😫. I’m waiting on Rutgers to say yes or no currently. I wouldn’t mind living in Philly or Newark. Also a lot of low res places are still open for applications so I’ve been doing a little research on those as well!
  4. I haven’t been notified about Rutgers but according to the draft spreadsheet folks started getting notices around late February.
  5. I really hope not. My fingers are crossed that they’ll keep notifying until Thursday. It’s the closet school to home for me and I really don’t feel like moving again lol.
  6. Congratulations 🫶🏽 Time for me to obsessively refresh my email for the rest of the night lol.
  7. Turning 30 this year! I graduated from undergrad in 2016 and have a few published things under my belt. I’m applying to MFAS to eventually become a creative writing professor. I’m currently a full-time creative but I need health insurance now (lol) so if MFAS don’t work out I’ll probably just get a regular suit and tie job to hold me over until next cycle.
  8. Hi all! Lurker and first time poster here. I’m applying to MFA program's to hopefully become a professor one day. I only applied to five schools: Rutgers Newark, Rutgers Camden, Iowa, Notre Dame, and Ole Miss but I feel like I should have doubled it maybe? Ten seems to be the average number. I don’t have any formal education in writing but I have awarded published work so hopefully that works in my favor. Fingers crossed for us all as we head into February!
