  1. I cant speak to the other two, but I felt like hunter had poor facilities overall. But maybe reach out and ask if they have specific things you want, I was interested in larger ceramic work, they have really no ceramics facilities.
  2. Debt free is big, but so is feeling good about where you're going. The way they've handled this seems odd to me, maybe talk to someone and say it feels odd to you too. As for people not working in the field, I think thats pretty common for people with studio art degrees, wouldnt read too much into that. They just stopped communicating after your interview or?
  3. Completely agree with this. Everyone's financial situation is different, but I had to work so much to do my nyc rent, barely any artwork was getting made. I cant imagine finishing a program, being in the same boat and adding in a loan payment.
  4. I got my rejection about a week ago.
  5. Scholarships are supposedly less for the march deadline.
  6. They are yes , I really felt great about Ohio after visiting. Indiana I also felt a good connection with the faculty. Both are fully funded ( for now I guess lol ). I was ready to sign with Ohio beginning of the week then they ended up on the Trump investigation list and I’ve gotten scared and started exploring Indiana more especially after they told me about them not using federal money.
  7. Hey so I totally encourage you to ask your dept head or faculty etc how much of your funding is federal, grants outside sources. I did this with both Indiana and Ohio. Indiana told me they don’t use any type of federal funding, it’s entirely from the school budget and don’t anticipate any cuts. (the last part I’m sure they couldn’t know about saying firmly no seems suspiciously optimistic lol). Ohio has told me they are “pretty sure” they don’t rely on federal funding for the grad program and will have an exact reply for me soon. feel even more confused about what to do, and trump started another investigation into OSU today.
  8. Sculpture / ceramics!
  9. I just started straight up asking the programs I'm between if the funding is going to be affected with Trump, hopefully they're transparent. I really cant take out loans, planned this entire year trying to get in a funded program feel awful right now that it could all blow up.
  10. Sure! Congrats on both admissions! Hope yale gives you a nice fat financial package and makes the choice easy haha
  11. If you got into yale photo, you go to yale photo! Obviously thats easy to say without thinking financially, but I thought Rutgers facilities were poor and they seemed really unorganized when I interviewed in person. Other then, Mark McKnight the faculty seems super out of touch / not exhibiting. Most people I know who have finished Yale in the past few years have rocketed career-wise, think the name certainly helps a lot.
  12. I also feel bad a school or two is starting to check in regarding my decision, and I don't want to hold up their waitlists but jeez I feel like I need more time to wait and see like you said. You were leaning towards UC right ?
  13. So multiple schools I got into and my top choice OSU, are now on Trump's list of investigations to possibly have funding pulled. I really dont know what to do about this, OSU has been quiet and hasnt followed up about a fellowship noimination and supposed increase in my stipend. I did get into UConn as well which seems to be staying clear of this whole mess? I was ready to commit to OSU yesterday now I'm scared I'll commit and my funding will get pulled and I wont have other options. Anyone else feeling that pressure?
  14. Have you physically been to Rutgers? I thought their facilities were poor.
  15. Just got accepted into UConn. So far for full funding: Ohio State Indiana Bloomington Kent State UConn I went to visit OSU and really enjoyed it, and they've offered the best package so far. Does anyone else get nervous about being in a red state with the current Trump attacks on higher ed? It's one of my only holdouts for committing to OSU.
  16. Waitlisted at Tyler sculpture
  17. Were you accepted to Ohio? Funding for the arts seems super secure.
  18. I dont know if anyone else is in this boat but figured I would check, I was accepted into Ohio State, and was nominated for a fellowship. I haven't heard yet if I was awarded it, I'm probably attending anyway but on my offer letter it said I would hear the week of 2/24, haven't heard anything. Would you guys check in with the program? I don't want to be annoying but obviously would like to know.
  19. Just got an interview request from Uconn.
  20. Sculpture!
  21. Has anyone heard back from Tyler post interview?
  22. Tbh I think I’d have a hard time turning down the Fulbright if offered lol sounds like a pretty cool topic, and I’d imagine completing a Fulbright would make you really stand out next MFA cycle if that’s the route you went. Kudos on both opportunities!
  23. No, I did this every time.
  24. Hey hey, I applied last year to one program got the interview, and was rejected. This year I have three offers right now and two for funded programs that I am excited about. In hindsight I definitely was not ready last year, my work was old, and I was way out of practice both in writing and speaking about my work. One thing I did other than really shifting my life focus onto my practice was I did an artist residency at SVA over the summer. Yes, I made some new work during it that ended up in my applications but more importantly, I got back into the swing of speaking about my work, and writing about it. A few of the studio visit professors from that residency also wrote my letters of rec and that made me feel really confident versus digging someone up from undergrad who maybe is not as familiar with what my practice currently is. In a more literal sense, make sure your work is documented well and definitely show any mentors / crit groups your work practice practice practice speaking about it, writing about it, show folks that too. I'm sure having a residency on my resume didn't hurt in applications, but it was really more for me about what I got out of the program than having it as a resume highlight. Also, last year I took that rejection HARD, but it definitely wasn't the right program for me, and I cast a wider net this time, and I feel like so far programs that have reached out not only would be a good fit but really want me and my work. Try try again, put yourself out there something will shake out how its meant to, and don't be afraid to apply to more/ different schools if you can afford to.
  25. I’m like just starting to sketch again / work on some things this month after stopping in august lol pretty much everything I submitted in my apps I made between April and September so the burn out has been have in addition to the stress/ anxiety this process has caused. I realized how important my mental/ physical health is to my practice and letting both those slide with this app season , I’m just trying to get back to being a person lol.
