  1. Earlier this morning, I received an email titled "IWW Update" from Willis, breaking it up from last year's "From IWW". It says, "Your application is still under consideration," which is also different from last year's "You are on the waitlist." I wonder what could it possibly mean.
  2. I was just about to post about this and ask what this means. That's it. I'm done with Iowa. It just feels wrong to get waitlisted twice in a roll.
  3. Yes. one of the two sessions.
  4. OMG huge congratulations! I'm so so happy for you!
  5. I already had an info session with VT, I'm afraid. I believe they've sent out acceptance as well as waitlists.
  6. UVA rejection just out. Real close to the end of the cycle for me now. I'm proud of each and every one of us. We've made it this far.
  7. I guess if anyone declines their fellowship then the pot might be sweetened. I'm just looking into the cost of living in NY and it's a little bit daunting. Chex you can pm me if you want to know more about the details of the funding and moving to NY as an International student. I landed in New York when I was 18, having never been to the States. I only stayed there for a few months, but it was one of my most memorable experiences. I'm praying for you and I hope you get a better deal real soon.
  8. I'm assuming this is for fiction as they're still interviewing poetry applicants? It took me five reads and it was the most stream-of-consciousness rejection I've ever read. Then I found out I missed the attached rejection letter. Oh no Chex, sorry to hear that! NYU is notorious for its ridiculously high tuition...
  9. Congratulations! Looks like we are building up a small NYU community here! A reliable source says they will send out acceptance on 1 March.
  10. Congratulations! That's great news!
  11. Someone I know was offered a place last year. Iowa emailed them to arrange a Zoom call. Also, just received an interview invitation from Notre Dame🥲
  12. Email from Elizabeth Willis on 11 March 2023 (Poetry)
  13. I'm international. Last year I received my waitlist via email. Hope this helps.
  14. I lived in NYC for three months and just felt that the city's filled with creative energy. I agree with you though and it seems easier to focus on work elsewhere. Also, NYU has a very large cohort each year and I'm not sure how I feel about that. I might go and audit one of their classes and see what it's like. Apart from NYU I have a safety offer (only partially funded so...) and a place at VT. The thing is, I'm waitlisted at Michigan and Syracuse, and I've decided to wait for a bit longer and see what happens (again, congratulations on getting into these programs; that shows how brilliant you are). I'm still waiting on a few programs, but I guess only Brown and Iowa are the real options (I've crossed out the Austin programs).
  15. HUGE CONGRATS! Are you planning to go there? Looks like we might be classmates after all? Congratulations on the waitlist! To make it better for @jadedoptimist: I'm waitlisted at Syracuse as well and I'm not planning to stay on the list.
  16. Congrats! And hope you are getting better! Is this for poetry or fiction?
  17. Huge congratulations! I'm waitlisted but I don't think I'll stay on the list. You are definitely good enough for any program and you should stay hopeful, even if it turns out that you might need to wait for another year. Last year I was waitlisted by JHU, NYU and Iowa but nothing worked out and I had to reapply. I didn't even change much of my SoP and at least half of the manuscript was recycled from last year's application.
  18. Also, I've heard from a reliable source that Michener just sent out the first poetry acceptance (not me). Fingers crossed for everyone. I do hope someone here gets in!
  19. More news on the NYU front: I have been offered the Wiley Birkhofer Fellowship (if I'm not mistaken). It does come with a substantial stipend. I'm over the moon right now! They did say that they made the call early, and it can still be weeks before the whole process is complete. I am praying for everyone applying to the program! I have also been rejected by Mississippi over the weekend😅
  20. Good question! As I've said in my original post, I'm not on draft☺️
  21. Though I think they did say, for JHU at least, that in some years no one got in, but in other years a few people got in. Good luck!
  22. poetry! Thanks for all your warm words! Fingers crossed for you all. I was waitlisted by JHU last year. They said their list was unranked and asked if I wanted to stay on the list. I replied, and they said, "Thanks for replying." I never heard from them again until 11 April when the system updated and sent me a form rejection. I know this is probably not what you want to hear and I am sorry if I've put a damper on things for you😭
  23. I got into NYU😲 I missed a call from Deborah Landau because it was in the middle of the night for me, but she sent me a congratulatory email setting up a call for later (also I'm not on draft). Happy but also anxious in terms of the funding. I don't think I'll go there unless it's fully funded.
  24. Congratulations to everyone getting accepted and waitlisted, and fingers crossed for those still waiting! Is this UIUC we're talking about? Only 40 applicants? Wow that sounds a bit insane to me (or I'm being petty because that number just made that rejection a bit harder to process lol).
  25. WashU St. Lious poetry just out, no luck though. So out of the blue! Rough start of the week? 1a/0w/6r/12p
