Congrats on being accepted into the Sculpture MFA! I think that depends on your cohort/dept. head. Graphic Design was very separate due to the dept. heads controlling nature so we did not get a sense of collaboration or commingling(the GD dept. is awful but from what I have heard the other programs don't seem to have these issues). I know many in the more fine art MFAs that have had the opposite experience and have truly felt they are in a collaborative environment not only with direct peers in their discipline but also those outside of! They are very happy! I would definitely reach out to current students and get their genuine opinions without a professor standing near by and do a visit if possible! Tyler does host a TON of lectures and demos with a wide array of visiting artists for the students. Tyler also has phenomenal funding, awards, connections, and GA/TA opportunities for the students. If you have something you want to learn/make, odds are Tyler has the tools and a professor that has done it and could give advice!

What discipline are you referring to? I can speak to the Tyler Graphic Design MFA but not the others specifically. The facilities are phenomenal at Tyler and Philly is a really cool city to be in! Most of the MFAs have very small cohorts, some as small as 3. The campus isn't in the best of areas but the buildings are all key card access and have security. Just like any city there's some rougher areas so you just have to be aware:)

So both years for Cranbrook, I reached out to Julia Delagarza who is the 'Director of Enrollment and Financial Aid'. She is great! I talked with her a ton during and after the application process both times around. She is who sent me my offer and I assume everyone else's(idk if it differs for other programs/AIRs). The department heads don't have any say over funding and who gets it, I was told this by my AIR. He was very open about being vocal about funding you needed and reaching out to the financial/admission team. I have not heard about federal funding, last year they told me in March so maybe the timeline is similar. They were able to let me know before the deadline to decide so I could make my decision with all of the info I needed.

Hey there, congrats on your acceptance! I was just accepted as well and totally feel ya, but I will say the Cranbrook admissions/financial team is GREAT and so responsive. I was actually accepted last year and successfully negotiated more aid, unfortunately it just was not enough for me to attend. I was accepted again this year and am trying to negotiate more aid right now! With this now being my second MFA cycle I can confidently say it is super normal to negotiate aid with all of your schools!!! Write a professional and concise email stating; your strong desire to attend Cranbrook(or fill in the blank with any other school), how eager you are to grow and learn at said institution, how THIS program aligns with your practice/goals, and acknowledge/appreciate the already generous funding offer!! If the place is your #1 choice let them know! You can also say you are considering other schools and mention the funding offers that are causing you to debate your final decision(this seems bold but is normal, do so tactfully and it is totally appropriate). They are choosing us as much as we are choosing them! This is our education at the the end of the day and they know we have many things to consider before making our final decision. Let them know how badly you want to go here, how serious you are about your future, and how thrilled you are to be accepted and awarded BUT also if there is any possibility of receiving more funding at this time. We all got this, best of luck to everyone negotiating funding and those still waiting to hear back from schools:)

Interviewed with Cranbrook for Graphic Design!
-
Anyone apply to Cranbrook for Graphic Design? I applied and was accepted last year but ultimately had to turn down my spot due to financial reasons. Hoping to be accepted again and earn more funding:)

Hi everyone! Coming on here to post some insight as someone that recently attended Tyler for the Graphic and Interactive design MFA, I would unfortunately advise people to NOT attend there. I wish someone had told me this so I'm doing it in hopes it saves someone! I was swayed to go because of the generous funding I received in comparison to my other school offers and I regretted it quickly. The program director is a nightmare and extremely difficult to work with, the entire cohort was unhappy and lodged several formal complaints against her and the overall program, which is abysmal. Many of us talked to past graduates that all had similar stories and were just as unhappy with their experience. While Philly is a great city and the facilities are top notch, the program itself is lacking true substance and structure. I can't speak on the other MFA programs at Tyler but if anyone wants more details on the GAID program I am happy to post more and help out!:)
-
Congrats on your acceptances and good luck with whichever you end up at! I also had the pleasure of visiting and the art facilities are definitely amazing! I was more so curious about the actual curriculum and structure of the program(if anyone on here was familiar with it)? I felt safe in that one area but didn't explore the campus further and had been hearing negative things. But glad you had a similar impression to me
-
Hey there, thanks! I applied for Graphic/interactive design:) They reached out and set up a "meeting"/ "wanted to connect" with me...they never called it an "interview" which was very odd but I guess that was my interview for the program? I'm so sorry you haven't heard anything! I wish all these schools were better about keeping us in the loop and staying on similar timelines to one another, it would make the process far less stressful

Hey everyone! I am debating Temple (Tyler SOA) for my MFA along with another school, however Tylers offer is far better financially. Does anyone on here has any experience or thoughts on Temple (Alumni/current students/know someone/etc)? I have seen stuff written about the BFA program but never seen much about the MFA there🤔I know the BFA and MFA are very different programs but any insight into the SOA as a whole would be interesting to hear! I also know the area around the school isn't the best and wondering if that should deter me from going? I have heard mixed responses on this. I wouldn't live near campus(commute) but people have told me they didn't even feel safe attending classes at times...
-
Wow, that is super encouraging and so great for them! Thanks for the insight! I sent an email earlier so we will see what happens and I will keep you all updated on if its successful or not😬

I received an email from the artist in residence of my program notifying me of my acceptance and then a separate email with an official offer package from admin. However, those of us that received this only have til Friday(15th) to accept or decline our spots. So after that deadline(obviously not everyone will accept so that will open those slots back up) they will reach out to those on the waitlist. Also, every artist in residence has a different way of doing this so rather than the whole school being on the same timeline/deadlines they each handle the process individually and in their own manner(I found this out by talking to other candidates of varying programs)...so it could just be your artist in residence is still deciding:)

Hey there! I was accepted to Cranbrook and love the school but not the price tag:'(( wondering if anybody on here has had success negotiating more funding? Or referencing other offers you received to get that additional funding? Every school is so different so just wondering if anyone has done this/been successful with their Cranbrook acceptance
