I agree with all that letting them know your situation is helpful - but I would also be surprised if that came up in an interview. I think more likely if they offer an acceptance you can use that time to leverage their interest in you to discuss financial aid.

Nice! What is your area of art? I'm interviewing with some sculpture/installation professors.

I got an invite for RISD Sculpture. I'm shaking out of my skin I'm so excited and nervous.

I was accepted to MassArt today! I can't believe I'm so close to actually getting to go to grad school.... I have an interview with SMFA next week. Really hoping to hear from RISD, but the past three years they didn't invite interviews for sculpture until February 1st/2nd so I'm trying not to be nervous. Nothing from Boston University yet but their applications closed on 1/15 so I think it's still early.

Nice!! Which discipline?

It's brutal, right? I did not apply to Amherst but dang they had an early deadline! How many schools did you apply to? I looked through every page of the last few years using the find feature in my browser for my specific programs so that gave me a good idea of when I might hear back. Like I will try not to freak out about RISD until after the first week of Feb since historically they have sent invites out around then.

is that for an MFA? Or for a BFA? I ask because of your handle name.

MassArt interview! Just got the email.

6 schools is a lot of essays and specifics, I only did 4 and that felt wild!
-
Same! Just got SMFA, feels fast because their applications closed on 1/15. Hopefully they are just really on top of it and other schools haven't done it yet!

Oh my goodness I wake up every day after dreaming that I got in to RISD...or didn't....or that I declined an interview request because I was confused...it's all so stressful!
-
oh yes but I think that's normal. the waiting is pretty terrible.

Sculpture for me! I do a lot of deliberately-inefficient projects with mold-making.

Yes and they do have great facilities - although I toured right as they got out for Thanksgiving break and the wood and metal shops were locked up so I couldn't see those. I probably just picked a bad day to tour! I had a friend get her MFA there last year in printmaking and she has had amazing opportunities to show in Boston and felt like the program was excellent for her.

That's great to know! Did you tour MassArt or talk to anyone there? I didn't get a super electric feel about working there as a sculptor since they said their cohort never has equal 3D/2D groups (less on 3D). BU seems so great though, the director of sculptor was such a pleasure to talk to and was really animated about what they can do in sculpture.

Hi everyone. I love this forum but can't believe how few posts are on it this year! I applied to four schools for sculpture. I can't move for school so I focused on schools I can commute to, which was fine because I'm very excited about them especially RISD/BU. I thought I'd be relieved to finish my application (I did in November) but waiting and not being able to do anything to help my chances feels harder than working on the SOP and all that! Was that with Erin? She was awesome! So hepful.

Arprof.org doesn't do application tutoring exactly but you can pay them for a portfolio review or statement of purpose review. The statement I think is $350 for 700 words and $400 for 1000.

Oooh I got into CCA a decade a go and really wanted to go but couldn't figure out how to go to school and live in the Bay! Also UC Berkeley's program is fully-funded if you are interested in staying in that area!

I am applying to RISD, Mass Art, Boston University, and SMFA Tufts (schools in my area) for sculpture. Short list but I'm not willing to move or do a Low-Res (my husband's job is in the area and we have 3 kids to keep stable!). FYI you can sign up for online portfolio reviews outside of the National Portfolio days, RISD's admissions website has many dates/times open for 10 minute reviews and SMFA offers 30 minute reservations!
