  1. Do you know if PSU always interviews potential admits? I applied there as well but haven't heard back.
  2. I'm so sorry about the whole thing! I really wish you get in! God Bless you! I hope everything will work out in the end. I'm Eastern European, I'm not really the target group I think but I'm not represented in the overall USA student body much either, not many Slavic people in grad departments across the country, I'm not sure why but this is also stressing me out. Please, have faith and I will keep my fingers crossed for you too!
  3. I can see UCSD started releasing offers. Two international applicants got accepted. Anyone else waiting to hear from them? I am so worried. Also, I am an international applicant, I do follow USA politics, but I am not sure how the current situation might affect university admissions. My topic is strongly related to migration, equality, and racial disparities. Will this harm my application? I'm feeling hopeless now.
  4. In all fairness, while this person cannot interact with us on this forum, I can't comment on the grad cafe updates, so maybe it is genuine! I've tried a couple of times and I just can't comment there.
  5. It seems very odd. I don't know what to make of it but also I don't quite understand what the person is trying to say "letting them know about the decision when possible"? Do they mean the offer letter mentioned they are offering admission on a rolling basis? Why would they state this in an offer letter though? You've already got accepted, it isn't relevant how they are making those offers since you've already got yours. Why would they mention this to anyone who got accepted? Seems irrelevant
  6. I just came here to tell you guys that the person meant portal not postal. I didn't apply to UPenn but keeping my fingers crossed for you both 🥺
  7. Nope, also waiting. Is the MCM department you applied to?
  8. I'm sorry to hear you didn't get in to any of your choices last year but it's reassuring to know I wasn't alone in this! I also didn't get in anywhere. It's my 3rd time applying, I already got 2 rejections. At the same time, if we were straight up rejections and not maybes, then we provably would have been rejected this month! I've noticed over the past cycles that universities tend to reject you fast if they know you just don't stand chances at all to get into their department. So, maybe the rest of them are evaluating our applications and really giving it a proper overview before they make a decision, it means we all have chances!! Congrats on your acceptance to History program! 🎊
  9. I read somewhere that applicants often make a mistake of thinking there are safety schools and then there are top schools like the ones you mentioned, so it must be ridiculously hard to get in. Apparently, getting into the most sought-after schools isn't as challenging because they may be able to offer more funding, especially for international students. Basically, they can afford to take on more students. This is what I heard from current graduate students.
  10. I just got another rejection from UIUC, 10 more to go 😬 Good luck to you too 🥺
  11. I just got rejected from the University of Oregon 😭 Last year, I made it to the interview round, I'm really surprised by this one. This year my application was much stronger... they had about 150 applicants. If you applied there, check your emails.
  12. Was it Communication Studies or Mass Communication? I applied there too, but I didn't get anything. Would they be calling international applicants as well or do they only phone American numbers? Losing hope this cycle 🥺
  13. 11 total, I saw some people applying to 20+ but I just wanted to apply to the ones where I genuinely want to go and see the fit. Maybe I should have opened myself to more opportunities?
  14. This all sounds so impressive! Well done! I don't have as much research experience, so I'm starting to worry 😅 the waiting period is so stressful 😫
  15. Congratulations!! You're on a winning streak this cycle! Out of curiosity, what's your background? You must have outstanding experience and awards with so many acceptance letters! 👏🎊
  16. Yes. They're sending acceptance decisions to the best candidates, they won't send all the rejections straight away though. If they offered 10 spots to the best applicants, they are waiting for people to respond, once someone rejects them, they'll make an offer to another person who wasn't their first choice but still a strong fit. This is how they usually work their way down the silent waitlist, not every program does official waitlists. This is why sometimes you will hear about your decision in May, some people even in August!
  17. Hi there! Also applying from the UK. Last year, I got an interview at the University of Oregon. They sent an invitation around the 9th of January if I remember correctly, and I had an interview around the 20th of January. After about 2.5 weeks, I received my rejection.
  18. I'm from Poland, but completed higher education in the UK where I've been working for the past few years. Sounds like you have amazing experience! I wish I could work in the education sector too, fingers crossed it will be possible after PhD (if I get accepted) 😅🤞
  19. Hi, there! I am also an international student! Where are you from? 😁 It's always hard to find international applicants on those forums. Are you applying straight from undergraduate or do you hold masters as well?
  20. Oh nice! Both are very good universities! I also applied to UIUC, I guess I wasn't their first choice then, but still hoping to somehow get in 😅
  21. Congratulations!!! How did you get the decision so soon? I thought they won't start coming out until January. Happy for you though, fingers crossed we all get lucky soon 🤞
  22. I reached out to 3 professors from each university and introduced myself and proposed topic. Some of them were very nice and replied to me, we exchanged a couple of emails. One of them had a zoom meeting with me. Another one encouraged me to apply reasuring me that my topic fits the department. Some said they don't accept new students, which was obviously helpful to know before I mentioned them in SoP. I also have one Professor whom I've been exchanging emails and calls for the last two rounds of applications and their help was instrumental in drafting my SoP! Once you find a professor who really likes you and your topic, you should keep in touch and make yourself known and interesting to the department, it helps a lot. Beware though as some universities advise not to contact professors, for example, U Minnesota.
