I'm so sorry about the whole thing! I really wish you get in! God Bless you! I hope everything will work out in the end. I'm Eastern European, I'm not really the target group I think but I'm not represented in the overall USA student body much either, not many Slavic people in grad departments across the country, I'm not sure why but this is also stressing me out. Please, have faith and I will keep my fingers crossed for you too!

I can see UCSD started releasing offers. Two international applicants got accepted. Anyone else waiting to hear from them? I am so worried. Also, I am an international applicant, I do follow USA politics, but I am not sure how the current situation might affect university admissions. My topic is strongly related to migration, equality, and racial disparities. Will this harm my application? I'm feeling hopeless now.

It seems very odd. I don't know what to make of it but also I don't quite understand what the person is trying to say "letting them know about the decision when possible"? Do they mean the offer letter mentioned they are offering admission on a rolling basis? Why would they state this in an offer letter though? You've already got accepted, it isn't relevant how they are making those offers since you've already got yours. Why would they mention this to anyone who got accepted? Seems irrelevant

I'm sorry to hear you didn't get in to any of your choices last year but it's reassuring to know I wasn't alone in this! I also didn't get in anywhere. It's my 3rd time applying, I already got 2 rejections. At the same time, if we were straight up rejections and not maybes, then we provably would have been rejected this month! I've noticed over the past cycles that universities tend to reject you fast if they know you just don't stand chances at all to get into their department. So, maybe the rest of them are evaluating our applications and really giving it a proper overview before they make a decision, it means we all have chances!! Congrats on your acceptance to History program! 🎊

I read somewhere that applicants often make a mistake of thinking there are safety schools and then there are top schools like the ones you mentioned, so it must be ridiculously hard to get in. Apparently, getting into the most sought-after schools isn't as challenging because they may be able to offer more funding, especially for international students. Basically, they can afford to take on more students. This is what I heard from current graduate students.

Yes. They're sending acceptance decisions to the best candidates, they won't send all the rejections straight away though. If they offered 10 spots to the best applicants, they are waiting for people to respond, once someone rejects them, they'll make an offer to another person who wasn't their first choice but still a strong fit. This is how they usually work their way down the silent waitlist, not every program does official waitlists. This is why sometimes you will hear about your decision in May, some people even in August!

I reached out to 3 professors from each university and introduced myself and proposed topic. Some of them were very nice and replied to me, we exchanged a couple of emails. One of them had a zoom meeting with me. Another one encouraged me to apply reasuring me that my topic fits the department. Some said they don't accept new students, which was obviously helpful to know before I mentioned them in SoP. I also have one Professor whom I've been exchanging emails and calls for the last two rounds of applications and their help was instrumental in drafting my SoP! Once you find a professor who really likes you and your topic, you should keep in touch and make yourself known and interesting to the department, it helps a lot. Beware though as some universities advise not to contact professors, for example, U Minnesota.
