  1. So I am a bit clueless on how to find funding if I am accepted into a MA program. So far the programs that I want to apply to do not offer funding, but are a good choice for me educationally. So how do I pay for the master degree exactly? I received my BA from a school that had a substantial lottery program and funding was automatic for students....which has left me confused on how to pay for this on my own.
  2. I have kind of a similar grade situation so it has been suggested to me that I might want to apply to masters programs first. The only bad thing about doing that is the funding. You might try a similar approach, but I know a lot of programs don't offer a terminal MA...which is kind of a problem I am running into.
  3. I guess I am worried that if I get off topic with my education I will look like a bad candidate for my phd schools. I am interested in brain evolution and not very many schools seem to have a anthro department that has any focus on that or at least it has been hard for me to find them. Is it just better to have an MA no matter what?
  4. Yeah that has been my problem, the program I applied to at Columbia (Ecology and Evolutionary biology) does not have a MA. And that has been the case the whole way around. I might have just managed to find a bunch of programs that don't give MAs.
  5. So a lot of people have been stating that a good plan B is to apply for a masters, however I haven't seen very many schools that offer that option. I have been very careful in trying to make sure that I had a good fit with the schools that I applied to this last year and none of them accepted applications for a masters in anthro. So do most people attend a masters program in a field that they are not intending to continue or am I just crazy to think I will get to study what I want?
  6. Well I guess that makes three of us then, I am also hoping to work with Dr. Hare. Please tell me if you hear anything!
  7. I have a bunch of high achieving LoR writers which is making this the worst year ever, they all got in the first time and the one who won't write back got into Harvard right off the bat, so I don't think they understand much.
  8. That is something I am afraid of....acceptance without funding. I don't think I will have to worry too much about it however since my super safety school just told me no thanks, which doesn't leave me with much hope for the better schools. Plus when I emailed one of my professors who had written me a LoR to tell them how it was going (two rejections and dead silence from everyone else) they never answered me back....so I am definitely feeling like I will never get into grad school.
  9. So if I haven't heard anything by now from my schools is it assumed to be bad news? I mean do acceptance letters usually go out early and rejection letters later? I want to be hopeful that I might still get in, but I guess I don't want to be delusional about it.
  10. I think that since the schools you are wanting to applying to are not crazy top ranked schools you have a great chance of getting in. Just practice for the GRE, write a good SOP and have some good references.
  11. I don't think you need the first sentence to be attached to the rest of the paragraph it doesn't seem connected to the subject of the rest of the paragraph. Really what you are talking about is how drawing/traditional training is a fundamental step in becoming a graphic designer and how you disagree with simply letting computer programs design artwork that is lacking a signature touch. Make sure you don't use contractions in the final version (don't, can't) spell it all out.
  12. So I am starting to get my rejection letters and I am wondering why I am getting rejected. Is it considered rude to ask a school why they decided to pass on my application? I just don't know what I am suppose to improve for next year and I really have no plan B to fall back on, so it is important that I get in this year or next.
  13. Yeah I am waiting for four more. I got my rejection from Emory, but I kind of expected it since they didn't invite me to their annual visit.
  14. Ouch I just got my first rejection letter...doesn't make it feel better that it came in an email. Will only the bad letters come this way?
  15. Ok this might be a dumb question, but how do I format my SoP? What should be at the top? Anything? Or do I just start right off with my first paragraph?
