Leaving this here for posterity: I had an interview back in January where my POI asked me to keep them updated about any other interviews, so I emailed a few days later saying I had another one but that their program was my top choice. Then I didn’t hear anything for several days so I completely convinced myself I had been rejected and I couldn’t do anything except think about what a disappointment I must be to everyone. A few weeks later, I found out I had actually been accepted. The only reason my POI hadn’t replied was that some departments simply don’t respond to applicants while decisions are still being made. So please don’t assume the worst: it’s not over until it’s over, and no matter what happens, your worth goes far beyond any single decision!!

If any Brown interviewees hear back, could you please let me know 🥺 the waiting is killing me a bit every day

I didn’t apply to this program, but I just wanted to say I’m really sorry—that’s such a disappointing outcome after all the time and care you put into your application. Really hope another opportunity works out for you soon!

I just saw that someone posted about a Yale interview—if anyone has any info on shortlists, interview numbers, or any other relevant details, I think a lot of us would really appreciate if you could share anything here (I applied to a joint program, though I’m not sure that makes much of a difference at this point) I heard the department was expecting around 250 applications for 7 places, so huge congrats to anyone who made it this far!

PhD! From what I understand, schools that offer both a PhD and a terminal MA usually look at the PhD applications first and then move on to the MA pool, so the timelines can look a bit different. I also saw someone post about an NYU IFA interview—a friend who almost went there last year told me they got an email saying IFA didn’t do interviews, so I was expecting that to be the case again this year. Any chance the original poster could share a bit more information? And if anyone has heard anything from Yale or Columbia, I’d love to know—even if it’s just to confirm whether I’m already out of the running. I’m so ready for this to be over! I’ll definitely post when I hear back from Brown! My POI made it sound like it’s pretty much out of her hands at this point

Your list honestly sounds really strong, and prioritizing research fit makes a lot of sense! Small update from me: I heard from the Courtauld and have an interview next Monday. I know UK unis often make unfunded offers so I wouldn’t be surprised if that were the case for me at the Courtauld. Fingers crossed for everyone still waiting!

I still haven’t heard anything from Yale (or from any of my other programs besides Brown) and honestly I’m starting to lose hope a bit more every day. Good luck to everyone still waiting!

I actually love Italian Renaissance art as well, even though I’m applying in 18th/19th-century studies! And I can see why Brown might not be the most obvious choice if your main focus is the Italian Renaissance. Where did you apply, if you don’t mind sharing? Brown and Yale felt like the best overall fit for me, so I’d be especially interested to hear if anyone gets news from Yale. I’ll definitely post an update if/when I hear back from the other 6 programs I applied to. This cycle really does seem brutal, so I’m wishing everyone the best of luck!

Just a small update on Brown in case it’s useful: my POI indicated that the department will be making 3 offers plus 1 additional offer to join the waiting list (this had already come up in their personal statement workshop earlier this year, but I figured I’d pass it along here)

Hi there! I just got an email from my POI at Brown asking me for an interview early next week. Good luck everyone!
-
Good luck! May I ask what internships you interviewed for?
-
I've pretty much lost hope at this point but I applied for a publications internship and a curatorial internship. Good luck everyone!
-
I 100% get how you feel. Fingers crossed we get some news soon!
-
Thank you—it’s reassuring to hear that the questions aren’t too difficult. Just hoping we find out soon!
-
Thank you so much for sharing! Do you know for sure that you’ll be interviewing for the second position, or are you still waiting on an update?
-
If you email them, I’d love to know what they say—fingers crossed for both of us!

Fingers crossed for both of us!

Still no news from the Getty on my end. I know the Brentwood site is only reopening on the 28th January, but honestly, it’s starting to feel like it’s not the fires holding things up—it might just be me not making the cut!
-
The word on the street is that the application process is very competitive! From checking out LinkedIn profiles, many of the interns seem to be in their late 20s/early 30s, particularly for the internships I’m interested in. As an MA student and not a PhD, I do feel a bit young and not too hopeful. But if I hear anything, I’ll definitely share—for this year’s applicants and future ones!
-
Same here—I haven’t heard back yet either. I noticed that in past years, applicants who got interviews were contacted by mid-January, but I guess the timeline might be a bit off this year, especially with the fires. Fingers crossed we hear something soon!
-
Hopefully, everyone at the Getty is safe, and the situation is under control now—the fires occurred a while after I initially posted my question!

Did anyone apply for the 2025-26 Getty graduate internship program? If so, have you heard back? Or if you've done it previously, when did you get a response? Anxiously waiting to find out if I got to the interview stage.
