I got offers for around 30% funding, i feel like i could probably negotiate for higher but even then i doubt theyd raise it enough for it to be actually possible for me to go. Im considering just reapplying next year. this cycle i was so excited by the idea of going to grad school that i only really applied to really expensive name brand programs and now that things are getting real im realizing i cant actually afford it. Next year i think i'll be prioritizing funding. I'll also probably have a stronger portfolio so even if i get accepted into the same programs (which are programs that look amazing and i wish i could go this year!) hopefully i'll get more than 30%.

I just emailed SAIC about funding and found out that I was mistaken and the financial aid package was indeed sent out at the same time as offers and that I will not be receiving any funding. I also just got my offer for MICA with scholarship but not enough to make it feasible. Looks like I'll be reapplying again next year. For those who have successfully reapplied and gotten into more competitive programs, how much of your portfolio was stuff from the previous cycle and how much of it was new work? Im looking at reapplying to UCLA, Yale, Northwestern and Columbia, and applying to Hunter, CCA, UCSD, UChicago and RISD next year.

Is anyone who has been accepted or interviewed by Yale, UCLA or Northwestern painting willing to share their portfolios/ SOPs through private message? its looking more and more like im going to have to wait another year due to financial reasons 😕, and if im going to have to wait another year anyway i might as well try again for my dream programs!
-
congrats thats amazing, what department/medium did you apply for?
-
yeah that was me! i saw on the link they provided that financial aid packages go out starting march 1st, i attended the interview in person and they had a financial aid presentation after which i went to, i just took a look at my notes from that and they said at that presentation that financial aid info will be confirmed by late march/super early april latest.
-
yeah i looked through it but didnt see anything pertaining to financial aid, not sure if that means im not getting any, i'll probably wait a few days to see if we get any more information before emailing them about it. congrats on your acceptance! EDIT wait nvm i took a closer look at it i think theyre sending out financial aid stuff in march lol

just got accepted to saic painting and drawing too! has anyone received any information about financial aid/ merit scholarship?
-
still waiting too
-
did you email them about it or did they just send that to you? im wondering if i should just give up on hearing from them, my visa's expiring and i need to know what my options are T.T
-
what department did you apply for? i applied for painting and have yet to hear back
-
i interviewed for painting and drawing with Anne Harris and Robert Burnier It kind of went in the direction of a mini crit which i was a little surprised by but i left with really good feedback and a renewed sense of excitement to make new work after the post apps slump lol. Now that im revisiting the interview in my head i really dont know how it went because they seemed to disagree with some of the directions im going in/ choices ive made with work but i feel like i was able to explain my decisions and concepts well.

had my SAIC interview today and thought it went well but not amazingly, definitely started remembering important points i prepped for but completely forgot in the moment the second i left the interview haha. im now waiting to hear back from ucla on whether or not im getting an interview, rejcted from yale and northwestern and presumably columbia, interviewed for mica and saic.
-
its so over x_X
-
has anyone else heard back from columbia and ucla for painting? i saw that two other people on this thread have heard back from columbia, so i think its probably a rejection from me. ucla only contacts your references to ask for letters when you have made it to their shortlist and none of my references have mentioned anything to me (and i'd like to think they would) so i think its a rejection too. overall im not the most upset about the results since its my first year applying and i got two interviews, i just wish columbia and ucla would just flat out reject me already : / not looking forward to having to do this again next year but unless i get an almost full ride ill probably have to wait another year and to save up.

sure! they send me four questions ahead of time, two that were mica specific (explaining their curriculum of having visiting historians and artists) 1. how did you get to where you are in painting (i talked about my undergrad but then they asked more about pre undergrad too in the actual interview) 2. [mica specific information] based on this, how do you work in a group setting? share an example of how you engage in a group setting 3. [mica specific stuff] our expectation for intellectual engagement within the field of painting is high, Can you share an experience that has prepared you for this kind of environment (they didnt ask me this) 4. why mica why grad school now some extra questions they asked 1. why painting specifically 2. something about how i interact with other mediums since the program is largely painting focused? i was panicking at this point a little because i had audio issues so im not super sure what the question was but they seemed satisfied with my answer.

Has anyone heard anything from UCLA?
-
Just had my MICA painting interview, i think it went well although i did stumble quite a bit on one specific question and i dont know if my answer was what they were looking for still no word from columbia painting though i did see at least two other people in this thread mention receiving interview requests for painting, its probably a no for me im guessing 😕
-
i think it went out on the 13th last year, not 100% sure though
-
yale rejection 😞
-
i think i remember reading in another year's forum that they sent it in the evening, not sure if im misremembering. ughhhhhh im so anxious im checking my email every five minutes even with notifications ON. its my first year applying, hoping i dont have to do it again

MICA leroy hoffberger is out check your emails. im zooming thursday.
-
If they offer one full scholarship each year then it might work in your favor to explain your financial situation in my opinion, its likely that theyre the ones deciding who gets the full scholarship!
-
I just received an interview request from SAIC painting!
-
ahhh i see, thank you for your response! having limited access to facilities does sound really annoying especially since im pretty multimedia and im going to grad school precisely because i want to be immersed in a community of people who really care about their work 😕 its such a bummer to hear since im pretty set on going to grad school this year and MICA's my most realistic option in terms of acceptance rate.
-
what did you hear about MICA if you dont mind sharing? they werent on my list until i had a great meeting with them during a portfolio review event. I dont love baltimore so if i get accepted ill still be on the fence.
