  1. I filled out the FAFSA last night and am just waiting for a response now. For the past few years I've been saving everything I could for this type of thing, but then in April-May there was just one surprise thing after another that tanked my savings Thanks all!
  2. Another 2012 applicant, here. I failed to get in last year and after re-taking the GRE I'm not too hopeful about this time around, but I'm taking some grad-level classes to try to make up for it. I've heard mixed opinions about contacting PIs. None of the grad students I know did it, but I've been reading a lot of advice about doing so lately, so I'm undecided.
  3. Thanks for the suggestion, but nope. My parents footed the bill for my undergrad. I've had a credit line for the past 2.5 years, and my own cell phone plan, but I don't know how much credit those things actually give.
  4. So, I didn't get into graduate school for this year. In an attempt to make my application stronger, I enrolled as a non-degree seeking graduate student where I did my undergrad. Unfortunately, because of odd circumstances that are irrelevant here, I am considered out-of-state now. In May, my computer was damaged and I had to blow a bunch of my savings to pay for a new one. This means that I can't really afford the class I wanted to take. I hate asking my parents for help (not going to get into that) and I never qualify for the good types of financial aid (considered a dependent and my dad makes too much money). Are there any banks that provide student loans that anyone would recommend? I've heard horrible things about Wells Fargo, but I'm in the dark on Citi and Chase. Thanks for any help you may be able to provide!
