I, for one, think the weekend is a possibility. I’ve heard some grad schools will call after 5pm or on weekends because there’s a greater chance the person will pick up. They definitely want the chance to talk to you!
-
I think Iowa tends to call the people they accept
-
Let’s take a breather about Iowa. They have to notify 50 people and only 2 are in the draft. They’re not done! Just give it til next week and I’m sure you will see more trickling into the draft. Also, one person on draft who got in seems to have been rejected from Michigan and Michener, so there’s hope.
-
I’m still inclined to believe not everyone has been notified. Programs with far fewer spots have way more notifications currently. And no poetry notifications yet… idk I just think they’re making calls over several days.
-
Alright, y’all, if you’re gonna get accepted into the Iowa Writers’ Workshop, at least put the apostrophe in the right spot. @ the draft
-
I feel like we would’ve seen more in the draft if everyone got their calls today, especially given the size of the cohort
-
To anyone who's on their second round AND has gotten an acceptance--did you receive any acceptances or waitlists the first round? I'm thinking this is going to be 100% hard Rs for me this year and I'm thinking this means I will not try again.
-
Currently at 3 hard Rs, 4 soft Rs, and two pending. This is truly depressing. So glad I wasted so much time and energy on this.
-
Can we assume all Michigan acceptances are already out? Can't imagine why they would stagger 18 emails by too much a margin. Basically as soon as I see an acceptance I assume it's over for me.
-
I went to Michigan for undergrad and all their alumni emails have been making me jump out of my skin the past couple weeks
-
That’s awesome!!!!

I had a dream that the Iowa results came out and I didn’t get in but I decided to go anyway and when I got to IWW, Samantha Chang was making people do interpretive dances. And one person told her, “I’m not in the marching band,” and she said, “oh, that’s going to be a problem.”
-
Yeah, I considered this, but based on the draft (if any of the names are real!) it looks random.
-
To anyone who has already received a Johns Hopkins fiction rejection, can I ask what your rejection said? I am still waiting on a response from this school and I’m wondering what the hold up is. Perhaps tiered rejections?
-
Seeing some JH fiction rejections on draft. Radio silence from this school for me

Yesssssss bagel!!!!!! Yes!!

Yeah, like when shrek walks into Duloc. “It’s quiet… too quiet.” And then he finds Lord Farquaad in an arena sending a bunch of men out for his quest, saying, “some of you may die, but it’s a sacrifice I am willing to make.” (the admissions committee is farquaad)
-
In that case, I’m praying for some good news for you 🤞🏻🤞🏻
-
Are you fiction or poetry? It seems like most of the fiction rejections have gone out unless they are doing them in waves. but I don’t think ive seen any waitlists or acceptances yet for fiction so maybe they’re doing those second.

Not just rude, it's borderline illegal.

The Syracuse rejection hurt. I grew up in a Tibetan Buddhist community and George Saunders is a rare combination of Tibetan Buddhist, stellar writer, and kind and sane human. He was my top faculty member I wanted to work under.

Quick anecdote about this whole process and finding the right school: I work at an indie bookstore. My coworkers found a book that's coming out later this year and decided to read it together as a gag because they saw that the writing was instantly horrible and the subject matter slightly concerning. This book has been hot gossip around my workplace, with everyone ragging on it and calling it "more piss than plot." I recently was rejected by a highly competitive program. I then came to learn that the author of the aforementioned book is a faculty member at this school! I suddenly felt relieved I didn't make it into this program... This is not to say that this author can't teach well, but I just wanted to illustrate that even faculty members of these esteemed programs can be considered shit writers (by an entire group of hardcore readers)!

Do you think schools coordinate about when they’re sending out decisions? It feels like things are pretty evenly parsed.
-
I’m curious— what’s everybody reading lately? Today I am reading Pan by Michael Clune. It comes out in July. I’m only 30 pages in and I absolutely love it. It’s the kind of prose that makes you laugh out loud whether it’s funny or not.
-
Yes. I had one hard reject and four other soft rejects. No acceptances or waitlists. I feel 100% hopeless and even find myself picturing the same outcome if I applied to all these schools again next year.
