  1. Columbia UChicago Penn UCLA UVA NYU WashU Duke 20th-century literature Good luck!
  2. I have a lot of quotations in my writing sample that use italics. I guess you are suppose to leave them in italics though?
  3. The score reports I requested with my GRE general test were sent out Dec. 10 and the ones for my subject test Dec. 11. For all my score reports I requested both general and subject scores. The GRE website says requested scores are sent only if available on report date. Does this mean that the score reports sent out on the 10th had general scores only? Anyone ever contact GRE or schools about this question?
  4. The website says that score reports will be sent for this test about Dec. 24, but mine have already been sent. Did this happen to other people? I wonder if they are sending them early or if these reports just went out with my general test scores and not my subject test scores.
  5. I got a 630 too... I guess it's not bad. Seems like 650 is a nice mark to hit though.
  6. Not an important question, but out of curiosity do you guys specify when someone is not a full Professor and include the Assistant or Associate in their titles when mentioning them in the statement of purpose? I'm not sure if this would look ignorant if not included or petty if it is included.
  7. Anyone happen to know if CUNY offers tuition remission for out-of-state PhD students? I think I read somewhere on the website that only in-state tuition is covered, which would make that humble stipend in NY even more difficult to live on.
  8. I just realized I have been assuming the MLT application accepts letters of recommendation from a letter service. Is this the case? I know the Stanford English Dept. requires either the professor to submit online or a coversheet, but the MLT website doesn't seem to specify.
  9. I haven't seen anything on application websites about whether to upload the SOP/Writing Sample as a PDF or DOC. What are others doing?
  10. I was thrown off by how different it was from the practice tests. I took four practice tests and this one was notably different. There was no section where you had to match the style of a passage with an author. 90% of the test must have been "what does this line or word mean in this poem?' It wasn't an impossible test but I don't understand why they suddenly restructured the test . It felt like it was designed to reward those who didn't spend a lot of time with the practice tests. I heard of someone in a different test center who was getting 90 percentile on the practice exams but forfeited their scores today because the test was a bit of a curve ball.
