  1. Thank you both for the clarification!!! I looked it up, and FSU has a two-part admissions process. My academic board will say yes or no, and if they say yes, the application moves up and is background-checked by the overall admissions board. So, I'm keeping my hopes in check, but others who received this notification from FSU have gotten accepted!!! I'm going crazy right now but thank you both for responding and giving input.
  2. Hey everyone!! Random question: Does this mean the department review committee accepted me? Your application has been reviewed by your academic department and a recommendation has been made to the Graduate Admissions Office. The Graduate Admissions Office will complete the final review of your application and will post a final decision letter on this Status Page. Please continue monitoring your Application Status Page for updates. You will be notified by email when an update has been made to your application.
  3. I'm on some waitlists and I'm assuming the programs would have sent out notifications if the cohorts were closed/ applications have ended. I'm assuming that they truly just don't know until tomorrow. I'm crossing my fingers we all get our answers tomorrow!!!!
  4. My professor introduced me to the director of the fiction MFA program at Wisconsin-Madison and I had a really lovely 20 min convo with her today. To all of my fiction people who feel disheartened: she reassured me that EVERYONE is feeling this way, but to keep hope & choose the place you truly want to be in. It really affirmed my core beliefs that an MFA is what I want, even if there are roadblocks along the way.
  5. I reached out to the head of the department I'm waitlisted at twice since February, and it's been radio silent. I am so frustrated!!
  6. It's strange knowing my life can change soon. I'm going about my days finishing my undergraduate thesis & working & organizing events for an internship, but beneath it all, I feel so unsettled. I'm writing some really cool stuff, though.
  7. Bro the Syracuse thing disappointed me so bad— I just called admissions and she said it was an error. Very not nice of them and very unprofessional bahaha. Way to dig the knife in 😭😭😭
  8. Does anyone have any FSU updates? Wishing everyone luck & love ❤️
  9. I get that!!! I emailed the director of the program asking about waitlist movement & to affirm my interest but I haven’t heard back. I’m taking this is a good sign that they’re still deliberating but it can also be a “we don’t want to reject you right now so we are waiting for a good time.” I’m sending you lots of luck and hoping good news comes soon for both of us.
  10. I’m waiting to hear back from my last hope. I’m waitlisted & the call I had with the director in February sounded very promising (“you are NOT someone we want to say no to”). But now I’m second-guessing, and I’m so sick I’m not able to eat. Is anyone in a similar boat?
  11. random question: does anyone know anything about movement on FSU’s waitlist? Thanks!!
  12. I was warned time & time again by professors that most graduate programs try to refrain from admitting students fresh out of undergrad. While I don’t agree and feel really discouraged, I understand a bit of where they’re coming from— I guess they desire writers with life experience. As someone with a trunk full of baggage, it’s hard not to shout at them “I HAVE SO MUCH LIFE EXPERIENCE!! THE ONLY REASON I HAVENT TRAVELLED IS BECAUSE IM POOR!!!!!” But, alas, I try not to feel too badly. thank you for the kind words!!
  13. Hey everyone! I’m waiting to hear back from one school about movement on their waitlist. It is my last hope (aside from the realllllly unlikely chance of nc state pulling from their long list of applicants). I have spent the better part of two months since my wonderful (2 hour!!) call with the director of the MFA program daydreaming about going to school there. I’m a senior in undergrad right now with three internships & I can’t seem to focus on anything but the impending news that will either be the best or worst ever. I’m working on an eighty page final thesis of short stories and still can’t concentrate!! The funny thing is that I’m seeming to write better than I ever have— maybe the chance of working alongside Nicholas Goodly is motivating me hahaha. Is anyone else in the same boat? Also, has anyone had experience on the waitlist in the past? I was told I had a good chance of an offer, but also, he let me know they usually do not accept applicants under the age of 28. I’m 22 and freaking out LOLL. Thanks guys!!!! Wishing everyone well; it’s almost over.
  14. please let me know if you find an answer!!! trying not to be delusional about it bahaha
  15. ohhh that is so good to know— congrats on being "waitlisted for the waitlist," as my professor eloquently told me a few mins ago hahaha. I thought I was rejected completely so nc state left my mind... I hope at least one of us hears some good news soon!! I'm wondering if a select amount of people received this email or if we all did
  16. hey guys, just received word from NC State that while I am not on the waitlist, they are still "considering" my application and I'll hear back in may. is this not a rejection?? I've never had a status update that looks like this before bahaha
  17. two accepted fiction applicants from wyoming is CRAZY work. oh well.
  18. Waiting on Wyoming: A Novel continues... checked their portal and they made me update my password but I read it wrong and thought it was a rejection. Safe to say I am going crazy. ALSO CONGRATS TO EVERYONE ON THEIR VARIOUS WAITLISTS/ ACCEPTANCES!!!!
  19. hey, does anyone have any updates on Wyoming?
  20. waiting on wyoming 😭 (why does that sound like a cool novel title)
  21. Hey everyone! Question: I just received my third TAship teaching a College Writing course. Should I update my waitlist schools & those I applied to with this new position? My professor told me to update them and let them know I'm still a competitive applicant. Thanks! Sending light and love.
  22. I love the location, the faculty, and the three-year program! Based on their current and past students, it seems like a cohort that would suit me
  23. Hello everyone! I emailed George Saunders about my love for his work and how he inspired me to apply to graduate school, and he actually emailed back! (I’m still pinching myself.) I’m pasting part of his message down below in case anyone might feel comforted by his words: “ I hope you get in at one of those waitlisted places but, either way, being in an MFA does not make you a writer. And a writer does not need to have an MFA. At all. Just a love for the craft and a good work ethic. 🙂” He basically confirmed what has been repeated to me countless times: graduate school is not the end of the world. Rejection does not make you a horrible writer, and everyone who has ever written anything must face the hazards of feeling like we aren’t good enough to DO it. If you can’t believe in your craft right now, just remember that George does. (Un)surprisingly, it helps a lot. Best wishes to all!
  24. Question: does everyone have a "university id" listed on top of Iowa's application in the HawkId web portal?
