  1. What program did you ask about? I'm starting to freak out about SAIC. I feel like I'm already rejected. I called to ask when they send interview requests and the receptionist said they sent those out this week by mail (just like last year, I noticed). I mean, if I got an interview, wouldn't she just tell me on the phone? Since she didn't, I feel like I didn't get one...Rejection letters came out around mid-Feb. from last year too.
  2. I completely agree with finding a program that fits with you and your practice, and these rankings are irrelevant when it comes to finding that fit. I wonder why there is no recent rankings done in 2009 or 2010. I'm also curious as to how & why Yale is ranked #1 when it's not even a sole art school like SAIC, RISD, or MICA. I can see why if all they thought about was the facilities because their facilities are top notch, but that's all I can really think of. Otherwise, it seems like it's all just narcissistic, self-congratulatory "reputation" and "influence" factors. Why does it cost so much more to apply (& interview, to have to ship all those artworks) at Yale and Columbia compared to other art schools like SAIC (who gives a discounted app. fee of $40), RISD, MICA, Cranbrook etc ($60 app fee). Is it to discourage economically/financially disadvantaged people from applying? Even though they like to act as if they promote diversity?
  3. I seem to recall last year that people were getting "informal" phone interviews from CCA and the results were in the WebAdvisor site, which I've been having trouble logging into. I applied to UCSD as well and I'm wondering if they conduct interviews too. Does anyone know?
  4. Hi guys, I'm applying to Yale (painting) too (probably with 500+ others). Did you guys write anything on the description box? I don't feel like describing anything more, I already wrote about what my work is about in my statement. Is it okay to leave the description box blank?
  5. I have the same conflict w/ Hunter about having to pick b/w the Painting and the Printmaking/Drawing/Works on Paper. In many schools, these 2 are very integrated. My work borders on both as well but I guess I would pick Painting.. Did you guys notice Hunter has the most expensive app. fee ($125 + the slideroom fee)? Isn't that crazy? That's more than Columbia or Yale....
  6. Hey guys, I did the online portfolio review too for Hoffberger & the Low-residency MFA. The Low-residency feedback was encouraging. It said pretty much the same thing about explaining why I want to go to grad school. And that I should include more work (I think I only put 13 or 14 pieces). I'm still working on my portfolio..Both feedback said I should include detail shots of my pieces b/c they are large and complex. I didn't really think of my pieces as large (they're just around 3 feet by 4 feet) but there are plenty of details. I thought schools were annoyed w/ detail shots so I didn't do that. So I guess I'll do that for the real thing, but I'm not sure if there's a limit to "detail shots". Hoffberger's feedback was very short. It said my statement is fine and my portfolio has potential (don't know if this is enough?). It also said I shouldn't include mixed-media work..About half of my work are mixed-media paintings. So I don't know if Hoffberger is right for me. Too bad Mount Royal didn't participate in the review..
