  1. Did anyone talk to the financial aid folks? For those of us that didn't receive any financial aid, did they discuss how the loans will work? Are there private lenders that will give loans to cover what the federal programs do not?
  2. Hi mppm. Thanks for taking the time to answer our questions. Can you elaborate a little more on the different versions of the statistics and micro sequences? What determines which sequence for each topic we are able to take? (http://harrisschool....rses/index.html) Looking at the course listings, can you point our which courses are the advanced courses in micro? 32300/32400 vs 44100/44200? In addition, do you know anything about the three-course sequence in political economy, the econometrics sequence, or any of the advanced statistics courses? Can MPP students take the PhD level courses in the harris school? Also, I have seen some suggestions that we take a calculus course before attending. How necessary do you feel this is? Would a Calc 1 be sufficient? Thanks!
  3. Yes, mine was within the last hour. Same as above.
  4. I wonder of someone on the admissions committee is sick or something because this behavior is certainly unusual. This cannot help their yield rate at all.
  5. Exactly what a secret admissions soldier would say!!!
  6. Read more closely because I didn't suggest that all internationals have received their notification. If you look at the first wave of accepted students they all marked off international on the results. Here is the annoying, speculation-producing results page: http://thegradcafe.com/survey/index.php
  7. I agree. If you look at the results postings it looks like all accepted so far are international students. It seems unlikely that they either only accepted internationals or that only internationals posted their results. Maybe they just wanted to give the international students more time for visits and such.
  8. Has anyone received a response tonight given that email?
  9. I don't think that is true. Instead, it seems like they just sent out the international admits only so far based upon the results page.
  10. I'm wondering if maybe they let the international students know first to give them more time. For those accepted, did they mention a campus visit date?
  11. Anyone hear anything else from Harris? It seems like mostly everyone found out within a period of two days over the past few admissions cycles right around the 16th-18th, so this initial batch earlier is a change. I'm wondering if they notified everyone with funding already. It looks like they notified those funded first last year.
  12. What will an MBA give you that a MPP/MPA won't -- when most policy schools allow you to take electives in the business school -- that justifies a extra year of tuition and lost wages/career advancement? I suggest going over the curriculum at each of the business schools that you are applying to because they are likely to be very different. Some schools (chicago, mit) are quite analytical and quantitative in nature, while others are very "fluffy" with the courses you have to take. Some offer a great deal of flexibility, while others will make you take a standard first-year core with classes in IT and accounting that may be a waste of your time. If you are interested in something like finance or development economics, then I can see how a flexible MBA at a very quantitative program that is particularly strong in your focus area makes sense. If you just want a background in operations (why?) and organizational behavior, then maybe you can take a few classes as electives in the business school without losing a year of salary/career advancement and paying another year of tuition.
