  1. I am going to accept Cornell's offer tomorrow for the PhD program in Philosophy. I visited last week, and I had a good time, Philippe. My impression was that the department is very friendly and collegial, and the interests of the faculty are quite broad, so you'll find someone there to work with no matter what area you end up focusing on. I didn't see enough of Ithaca to get a good impression, but the restaurants were decent and diverse. Also, if anyone is looking to fill a room for the 2010-2011 academic year, please pm me or email me at hensley.ian@gmail.com. I'm a friendly, 23 year old male grad student who wants to live anywhere but Collegetown. Ideally, I'd like to move into a place with 1-2 other grad students of either gender in Fall Creek, but I am flexible.
  2. Looks like I had the opposite experience. I didn't do as well as I thought I would on the verbal and quantitative (650 and 740 respectively), and I did slightly better on the AW than I thought I would (6.0). I have a typical philosophy resume--3.98 GPA, heavy philosophical courseload, very analytic undergrad department (UVA). I suggested improvements to the argument in the critique part of the AW part, and I referenced Alasdair MacIntyre and Aristotle in the prompt. I didn't think I did anything special.
