Just got my Iowa rejection letter via email. It did include some kind and encouraging phrasing, so tbh I’m hella happy lol.
-
Anyone hear back from Chapman? I just received word I was accepted but didn’t get any info about funding, so I’m assuming I wasn’t awarded a fellowship.
-
Yeah…damn. Assuming I’ve been rejected by Syracuse at this point. This is rough, fam.
-
I think we just decided. Haha
-
I believe rejections go out in March. It looks like last year there were two rounds of rejections, one in February and one in March.
-
Yeah, I'm really sad about Irvine as well. Sigh.
-
This is now canon

Heyo @gafoo, just wanted to shout you out bc I saw your acceptance in Draft. Congratulations!!

-
Congratulations!!!

I could’ve written this word for word. Will be reading too!

I know this isn't very helpful, but please know that this random stranger is proud of you for trying.

Big caveat that I can't pretend to be able to contribute any kind of expertise here, but my gut sense is that you should take what your advisor said to heart! Personally, if I were an admissions reader, I'd be open to viewing your academic background as a refreshing source of diversity (e.g., it might shape your stories' subject matter in an interesting way). If this does prove to be an issue, maybe you can join a writing group or extension course to get some workshop experience under your belt? In any case, there's nothing you can really do about this now, so I hope you don't worry too much about it! Easier said than done, I know.

Yeah, I wonder what he meant as well. In this day and age, so many of the most objectively "successful" writers out there are also professors.
-
Huh? What is this supposed to mean?
-
I totally went through this, but during the mad rush of drafting my writing sample lmao. My brain woke me up at 3-4 AM every day to think about how my story sucked and I was doomed. I think this forum and others are really nice sources of camaraderie, but they do lead me to think about app outcomes way more frequently than I would otherwise. I think I'm going to limit myself to checking only once or twice a day, if that. I hope you're able to relax and your sleep irons itself out soon!
-
Same boat in terms of regretting my number of apps. Also have had to force myself to stop thinking about mistakes I made w.r.t. my sample, SOP, LORs...but it does make the prospect of 0 acceptances easier, knowing I'll prob be a lot better prepared next year.

Happy weekend, everyone! Hope we can all enjoy it without thinking too much about all this shieeeeet
-
I'm a little confused by this. What do you mean by "seeing how the offers shake out"? Would many people who are accepted really commit/decline at this early stage, before seeing how other apps pan out?
-
Oh, I assumed that the request to shorten to "EAH" was made by the actual person submitting as Edgar Allan Hoe lol.
-
LOL yes. A whole ecosystem of anonymous lil animals huddling at the watering hole

Thank you for providing this insider's perspective! I really enjoyed reading your first two articles. I'd love to learn more about just the nitty-gritty of your day-to-day MFA experience: what it's like to be in workshops with a small cohort, whether egos collide, what (if any) guidance students receive when it comes to finding an agent and publishing, what mentorship from faculty actually looks like in practice...

Oy, I wasn't aware that Brown isn't coming out till late March. So late.
