  1. Hi Kafralal, Thank you for your comment, it definitely makes sense. That is my challenge, to be able to explain where my work currently fits in the broader scope of my practice and art in general, and where I see my work going from here. As it is such a specific project, it's hard to articulate the next logical progression, which will have some similarities, I'm sure, but will look much different (as I think it should). I mean, I'm not going to switch into painting or something totally unrelated, but the next body of work which I am just starting to develop now will deal with some of the same kinds of media, and similar themes- narrative, humour, science, etc. I'm definitely in a bit of a strange spot right now, at the end of one very specific thing, but not quite far enough into something else.
  2. I'm applying to Canadian schools, because they're more affordable, and I'm Canadian. Guelph, York, Windsor, Waterloo, and Concordia. I'd be interested in some feedback on my work- I run the Institute of Morphoid Research which you can see here: http://jenniferakkermans.com/portfolio_category/imr/. While it does show a cohesive body of work, incorporating different media and approaches, my concern is that I might come across as a 'one trick pony,' so to speak. Feedback? Nice to meet you all here, and best of luck to everyone!
  3. I'm applying to Canadian MFA programs this year- Guelph, York, Windsor, Waterloo and Concordia- anyone else applying to these? This forum seems to be pretty American-heavy, in terms of applicants and schools. I hear a lot of funding for schools isn't really advertised/mentioned on their websites, hopefully it works out well enough that I can afford to go. In any case, the Canadian schools are much cheaper than the states. Waterloo has a really interesting internship- the Shantz internship- essentially, you can go to intern with almost any artist in the world (assuming they can set it up) for a month or two between first and second year, with some expenses and a stipend! I'm already dreaming about it. Here is the largest portion of my professional practice- what I'm applying to school with. The Institute of Morphoid Research - http://jenniferakkermans.com/portfolio_category/imr/ I would love to see what everyone else does here.
  4. I've been lurking for a while, but as I am considering applying for grad school this year, I might as well introduce myself. My practice is a little different. I am the Founder and Chief Researcher of the Institute of Morphoid Research. I make completely fictional creatures and study them as if they're real. If you want to see what I mean, here are my links. http://www.InstituteofMorphoidResearch.com/ http://jenniferakkermans.com/portfolio/ I've enjoyed seeing all your work, thank you for sharing! (Some of it is a little intimidating, so I've been hesitant to share what I do.)
