  1. wondering the same! i would have assumed they sent out acceptances first, then waitlists and rejections. i applied and haven't heard at all so idk. i wonder why they wouldn't just send out all rejections at once
  2. I think NYU historically has a lot of waitlist movement because not very many people can make the cost of the program work and are forced to turn them down if they don't have outside money or don't want to take out loans
  3. Look into creating your own writers group with similarly minded peers who are looking to workshop their writing. Another option is online workshops through places like GrubStreet, Center for Fiction, or Lighthouse. All of these offered financial assistance, and I found them really helpful for getting my sample together.Jess also does an MFA bootcamp over the summer both for first time applicants and those who are reapplying.
  4. I know it doesn't feel like it right now, but 24 is SO young. You have SO much time. I mean this in the least patronizing way possible. I'm only 28 now, but it astounds me how much i've read, learned, and grown in the past four years alone, and it's just barely the tip of the iceberg. Don't saddle yourself with debt and rush into paying for an MFA because you feel like it's the best option that'll ever come into your life. It's not true! You have so many more opportunities coming your way. Just keep focusing on writing and reading as much as you can. It's so corny, but the best really is yet to come. You'll see!
  5. no, i didn't get a sense of how many calls have gone out, but sam did ask if i felt like schools were moving slowly this year with notifications...i got the sense that maybe iowa adcom was feeling behind? that said, i have no idea, but suspect that there is more news to come since we haven't seen waitlists.
  6. fingers crossed for you!!! and protect your sense of self. not to be cheesy, but you are your best thing!!! your story, your POV, your writing, all of it is yours, and no one place can take that from you. hold your head up high!!! hope you're staying encouraged. ❤️
  7. i consider my work literary fiction, but it seems like the cohort has diverse aesthetic interests so far (at least from what sam told me). i'm familiar with the work of a recent alum who writes in the fantasy vein...i don't know anything about iowa's process but don't count yourself out on account of genre!!
  8. thank you! thanks all for bearing with my cringe-y, anxious contributions to this forum lol.
  9. sam is still making calls! just got a call from her today (sun, 2/22) around 2pm PT. the call was over 40 minutes, so i can see now how calling all 25 people would take a bit of time. i'm completely floored. i'd assumed calls were done and resolved this morning to just lick my wounds and move on. hold out hope!!!
  10. another acceptance hit the sheet today i'm losing hope! i feel sorta silly and ungrateful bc i am excited about an offer from another school, but iowa is provoking an uncomfortable confrontation with my ego and perception of myself as a writer that i wasn't expecting! i didn't realize i had all these big hopes for iowa until now
  11. not sure where JHU is in their calls but did get a call from Danielle Evans just after 5p ET. she did mention in her voicemail that they have an event tonight so not sure if there are more fiction calls to come in the morning? just sharing in case that helps with the speculation.
  12. ugh this is such a gut-wrenching process. jhu is one of my top choices...trying to write or do anything during this is so hard.
  13. nope! it's only accessible thru the fb group. it's years of (in some ways, sensitive) data that jess has accumulated and organized, so they don't post it on this public forum
  14. as in for poetry? seems like they make fiction and poetry calls on different days. at least i hope!!
