As someone in traditional publishing, this is very much wrong. Most people publishing today (tradpub or otherwise) do not have MFAs/PhDs. Programs are great for a lot of reasons, but publications is not one of them.

I'm gonna sound like an ad, swear i'm not, but: If it's helpful to anyone, I found this app called Freedom where you can block sites / internet /etc. for centain amount of time from your laptop, phone, ipad whatever. (Zadie Smith put it in the acknowledgements in one of her books lol). You can make it so you can't delete/uninstall it once you start. I did it for the last 24 hours, and it was hellish not having access to draft and this site, but not more hellish than checking every 5 minutes. Gonna do it again for the weekend.

yeah the worst thing any loved one can say to me right now is, "you're definitely getting in!!" no one can say for certain that any of us, no matter how good, are guaranteed entrance, esp in fully funded programs with so few spots, and some that may be taken by people who were forced to defer in 2025. I have one friend reassuring me, "it's fine if you don't, you can apply again, we'll do some fun stuff this summer as a treat," and that's been a breath of fresh air. anyways, big hugs as another first-gen applicant.

for your sake, i hate that you found this thread, but welcome lol ❤️ according to what's been reported in draft: iowa - nothing yet. the earliest they sent last year for poetry was 3/7 and others rolled in 3/14-3/26 Boston u - nothing yet. last year, no one got accepted for poetry in the draft, but waitlist and rejection rolled it from 1/21 to 3/24. pitt - nothing yet for poetry but nonfic sent interviews on 1/20 and fic on 1/29. last year, poetry interviews came out 2/3 and rejections on 3/27. oregon state - nothing yet for poetry but fiction acceptances came on 2/10 and 2/12. last year, poetry acceptance came 2/21 and waitlist and rejection 2/25 lmk if you have any questions

I wish there was a chat function on the spreadsheet. I basically live on there, and it would be nice to say "ahh" and "ughhh" and "I'm so scared bro are you scared too" every 5 minutes. Also I get kinda sad when the numbers dwindle in the evenings, and I'm just there with like 10 people. Like I know, and you know that no one is sending out a notification at 3am, but I love that we're here. I see you. Anyways, everything's fine, I'm totally keeping sane haha okay haha

I feel like Cornell (fiction) might be next week or the week after because 2025 was one of the only years they sent them out earlier. The other years were Feb 19th to Feb 26th ish. Which, cries. I'm dying already.

Is anyone else having a hard time sleeping? For the past few weeks, I've been waking up after a few hours of sleep, forcing myself to sleep, and waking up again intermittently every 30 minutes. I'm constantly checking this thread, the spreadsheet, my email, my phone. This is so not healthy, and I don't know how to ease the intensity.
