  1. I'm quite curious about how such joint/concurrent degrees work as well. I'm a recent Stanford GSB admit for their MBA program and have deferred my matriculation by two years to apply for their concurrent program with HKS. I know that the GSB's concurrent degree with HKS is fairly popular and I happen to know a bunch of alums who have taken up this option with HKS. From their viewpoint, it appears that since you've essentially made it through a relatively more selective school (e.g. Columbia Law/Stanford GSB), HKS shouldn't be as hard. Can anyone else confirm this hunch as well? Tursion - Congratulations on your admit! Do you think you could lend insight on your financial aid from HKS? Is it fairly common for them to award it for joint/concurrent program admits, considering the fact that they're already in an expensive program? I'm a little worried about financing my MPP/MPA along with an MBA (provided I do get through to a policy school!)
  2. I was wondering if anyone here considered/attended the concurrent degree program offered by Stanford GSB/HKS. Is it difficult to get into once you're already admitted to one of the schools? How does your placement vary after graduation (is the extra cost worth the extra degree)?
  3. The money is an issue, only if I am unwilling to reach out to my parents for financial help. With a grad degree, I am a little less inclined to take that path. Other than that, at this point, I'm curious as to whether Stanford would be able to place me at better environmental think-tanks/consulting organizations than Yale
  4. Thanks @polarscribe. I agree that Yale is not really a safety. However, if I completely disregard the tuition issue, then what? Does Stanford still stand out? Also, wouldn't 50K be compensated in a couple of years with a Stanford degree (I believe that Yale MEM doesn't generally place you in the high-paying spectrum)?
  5. I've been accepted to Stanford's MS in MS&E (Without funding) and Yale's F&ES' MEM (possibly with funding), and I'm quite unsure about where to go. I'm coming straight out of undergrad with no work experience but plenty of research experience (I do have a couple of full time jobs lined up). My short term goal is to either take up a job in environmental consulting/venture capital/environmental policy making or continue on to a PhD program based on whether or not academia suits me. I'm not very sure about my long term goals, but I'm hoping that they build on my short term ones. I'm not ruling out an MBA if I need it (Ive interviewed with HBS 2+2 before, but was dinged). * I was hoping you guys could help me decide which would work better - Stanford or Yale? I'd like your opinions in scenarios where funding is an issue as well as where it is not. * Both schools offer joint programs with their law schools/public policy schools - how easy would it be to integrate into those schools from my home school? * Would a campus visit help? Thanks! p.s. sorry if this is a cross post! I can delete the other thread
  6. I was accepted by Stanford MS&E for their Masters program. No funding though Anyone else facing the same dilemma?
  7. Purdue is definitely top notch for Aero. It's hard to believe that you'll be without funding for long at Purdue considering the opportunities for TAships in their large undergrad engineering departments. I'm not too sure about the 3/4 NASA research coming from Purdue, but it definitely has a massive presence there. Companies like Northrop Grumman, Lockheed, Boeing are regulars and consistently hire even underperformers - which should be an indication of the reputation that Purdue Aero enjoys.
  8. I've been admitted to the MS&E program too. I was rejected from MIT TPP. I believe that MIT is more selective than Stanford for their Masters program, not to mention the fact that MIT is MIT for engineering/applied sciences. I'm quite sure that both schools would have the same reach in terms of placing you in the business consulting sphere (MIT - Monitor Group, Cambridge Associates , BCG etc. while Stanford has Silicon Valley and strong Wall Street connections through a more reputed GSB). I'm guessing MIT would have a more quantitative approach, as opposed to Stanford, which I think is very customizable towards strategy and policy fields. The other factor that you might want to consider is funding. I'm assuming MIT funded you and Stanford didn't?
  9. I've been admitted to the MS program in Management Science and Engineering. I'm planning to visit the campus around 1st April before I make a decision. Is anyone else doing the same? MS folks - did anyone get funded? If not, how are you guys planning on bankrolling the degree?

  11. I'm quite sure that they don't expect all admitted students to attend the open house. I sort of want to attend the open house just to get a better idea about the Yale atmosphere before I make a decision about enrolling or not.
  12. I've been accepted Very unexpected, but I'm happy. Waiting for financial aid to see where I'll go. BTW does anyone plan to visit the open house?
  13. Could you possibly post some more info ? Like when, any aid, talk about masters etc.? And brief profile overview if possible
  14. Did anyone hear back from the ESD department?
  15. Yeah I was admitted! No funding tho
  16. Just heard from TPP. Rejected Best of luck to all the admits!
  17. I think thefugu's assessment is right. There have been a few admits early on. To be fair though, they had really strong profiles. And again, any new admit profiles would be really appreciated.
  18. Congratulations to the admits! If the admitted candidates could possibly post their profiles, it'd be great for future applicants.
  19. @applicant: what are are you coming from? Are you asking me about my background? I'm an international student, but I attend a top-10 US engineering program. If you meant source of the above info, I had a talk with TPP. Nothing on paper of course. I believe Stanford MS&E had an acceptance of ~30% for their master's program too. I'd like to think that these numbers are inflated because they're probably taking the continuing undergrads from MIT/Stanford into account.
  20. I'm an applicant too. I recently had a chat with TPP and from what I understand, the admission acceptance rates are close to 25%. That seems to be pretty high, so I'm a little optimistic ( thinking rationally though, I'm a college senior with no practical work experience. Bummer.) However, TPP's been personally replying to submissions - I'm not sure if that's a sign that the number of applicants is low? @imda2001 - Could you share your views on the RA bit here as well? Would be much appreciated
