Got it. While you are here and I know you are quite knowledgeable, what do I do when I get put on a waitlist? I got waitlisted at Columbia and I'm wondering if I should follow up with a letter of continued interest, try to contact professors, if I can still accept an offer from The New School if there is no movement before April 15th? This is my first application cycle. I am tempted to just go with The New School but I also know Columbia is an okay program too. I mean, this all depends on the aid I get but ignoring that part for the time being. If you don't mind sharing some expertise! : )

I'm honestly dying to know if the Hunter fiction class is finalized. It is frustrating because on the website it says they will still be considering / making decisions well into April and May, but at the same time in the spreadsheet it seems like interviews, waitlists, and acceptances have already gone out. It is the last school I'm waiting on. Should I hold out hope? Email them? I noticed in prior years candidates have emailed them and received a status update but their website says not to. Anyone have an insider scoop on Hunter's program??

Hi! I’m wondering if anyone could give me their honest opinion on what I should do with my given options for an MFA. I applied to a handful of schools and got in to American University and The New School. I was rejected by Syracuse and NYU. I am still waiting to hear back from Hunter but I'm assuming it is a rejection. Both The New School and American gave me partial funding. I got a part-tuition remission award from American and a 60% off tuition award from The New School. So around the same from both schools. They seem like good programs but I'd have to take on some loans to go. Honestly, I was really hoping to go to a school that is more well known within the MFA world, or fully-funded, but I also think that on another hand American and The New School both sound like great options for me. I didn’t really have much publications or experience I’m sure compared to other candidates, so I’m assuming it makes sense I may not have been accepted anywhere else. I also didn’t have a great gpa in my undergrad, but my writing I think made up for it. I’m wondering if I should wait another year and try again for a fully-funded school I might prefer going to or if I should just attend The New School or American? I really would love to go back to school for creative writing so I might become a professor and I am already 30. This was my first time applying. What do you all think? Should I go with The New School or American? Or should I attend more workshops and try again another year? I mean I honestly would have preferred to go to Hunter or NYU but The New School is a good option right? Anyone have any opinions?
