I don't have exact numbers, but this makes at least 5 students who I know of who have dropped out of the program within the past several years due to a single personality. All of these people were working with the same "distinguished" medievalist in the department. By allowing this professor to keep taking on (a disproportionately high number of) students, CWRU's art history department continues to subject students -- esp. marginalized students, both the professor's and other advisers' -- to bullying, hazing, and other unnecessary traumas. It is truly anomalous to everything I've heard about other departments and I'm so glad to be gone. At the risk of coming off like Mr Crocker from Fairly Odd Parents, I won't keep spamming the forum. But I know the school is competitive and people just don't know what they're getting into. I am happy to discuss this with anyone who is considering applying.
