Hello - I've received an offer from Princeton and will probably enroll there in the Fall. I'm looking at the housing options, and am hoping to move into a New Lawrence studio apartment. Based upon the one or two posts I've read here it looks like it's difficult to get the rooms in Old or New Lawrence, but I was wondering if any of you know someone who successfully got their first choice as an incoming student. Thanks in advance!
  2. My friend just came back from their prospective students' weekend. It doesn't seem to be uniform across all departments, but Duke has a tendency to scope out students through these invitational weekends to see how well each applicant fits into the general community of their department. I think this speaks to their success despite being a fairly new university compared to other elite institutions.
  3. If you didn't get an invitation from Duke to go to their prospective students' weekend, that means that you are on the rejection list. They are making their final decision this Tuesday.
  4. If you haven't received an invitation for the prospective student's weekend, I think it's highly unlikely that you will get accepted. They scheduled two rounds of interviews in February for short-listed students. Duke hasn't given out any acceptances yet, and I don't think they will until they've met all the students on the short-list. The results will probably come out in early to mid March.
  5. It looks like we're starting to hear back from more and more schools at the moment - congratulations to those who've received offers! I was looking at the results page and saw that someone posted a rejection from Harvard on February 15 (via email). I was wondering if this was a unsolicited notice, or a response to an email that someone sent to their POI or the graduate chair. I'd appreciate any information/insight on the decision making process at Harvard.
  6. Through the grape vine - I've only heard about acceptances. Maybe it might take a bit longer for waitlisted applicants to be notified.
  7. Apparently for Yale the DGS has already emailed out acceptances. Also, just because you didn't get invited to the Columbia open house doesn't mean that you're not on the short list. There's still some hope!
  8. I spoke with a professor, who said that when you don't hear back but get in, it might be an indication that your POI is a bit stand-offish and not very hands on. After that the decision you make is based upon whether you're an independent self-motivated individual, or someone who wants steady guidance to navigate your degree and the field.
