  1. Hello -

I've received an offer from Princeton and will probably enroll there in the Fall. I'm looking at the housing options, and am hoping to move into a New Lawrence studio apartment. Based upon the one or two posts I've read here it looks like it's difficult to get the rooms in Old or New Lawrence, but I was wondering if any of you know someone who successfully got their first choice as an incoming student.

    Thanks in advance!

  2. Hey Opemi, how do you know such detailed info? Just curious...

My friend just came back from their prospective students' weekend. It doesn't seem to be uniform across all departments, but Duke has a tendency to scope out students through these invitational weekends to see how well each applicant fits into the general community of their department. I think this speaks to their success despite being a fairly new university compared to other elite institutions.

  3. Seriously though, has ANYONE heard from Harvard or have an idea of their notification timeline? I got accepted to a great program w/ glorious funding; I just want to know where I stand w/ Harvard and Duke so that I can MOVE ON. If anyone has insight on either of these two programs, please put me out of my misery now. Thanks, and good luck to you all.

If you didn't get an invitation from Duke to go to their prospective students' weekend, that means that you are on the rejection list. They are making their final decision this Tuesday.

  4. Can we assume at this point that Duke has made its decisions? Ugh, why haven't I heard from them yet! Someone please let us in on what's going on... :-/

If you haven't received an invitation for the prospective student's weekend, I think it's highly unlikely that you will get accepted. They scheduled two rounds of interviews in February for short-listed students. Duke hasn't given out any acceptances yet, and I don't think they will until they've met all the students on the short-list. The results will probably come out in early to mid March.

  5. It looks like we're starting to hear back from more and more schools at the moment - congratulations to those who've received offers!

I was looking at the results page and saw that someone posted a rejection from Harvard on February 15 (via email). I was wondering if this was a unsolicited notice, or a response to an email that someone sent to their POI or the graduate chair. I'd appreciate any information/insight on the decision making process at Harvard.

  6. How do you know Yale has emailed out all of its acceptances? Did you call/email? I've been too chicken to do that myself!

Through the grape vine - I've only heard about acceptances. Maybe it might take a bit longer for waitlisted applicants to be notified.

  7. Hello all. I am new to the forum, though I appreciate all the commentary. I know people have been wondering about the Columbia interview weekend. Any news/updates? Is it fair to say that all the invites have gone out? @manetdejeuner: what did the department say when you inquired about your visit?

Also, any news about Yale acceptances?

Many thanks. Good luck to all.

Apparently for Yale the DGS has already emailed out acceptances.

Also, just because you didn't get invited to the Columbia open house doesn't mean that you're not on the short list. There's still some hope!

  8. Congrats to the Yale acceptances. I was especially intrigued by the applicant who didn't have any successful contact with the department - apparently, it's not always a bad thing not to hear back!

I spoke with a professor, who said that when you don't hear back but get in, it might be an indication that your POI is a bit stand-offish and not very hands on. After that the decision you make is based upon whether you're an independent self-motivated individual, or someone who wants steady guidance to navigate your degree and the field.
