  1. I agree, unless sharing an acceptance (and the understandable excitement in that moment) is being construed as gloating/arrogance. I think this thread is a space to share any news we receive as decisions come out, while of course being considerate of others who may be feeling down about their results or are still in that awful limbo of not hearing a word from their schools.
  2. How was it? I'm planning to visit Feb.26-28th.
  3. Also rejected from Berkeley! Great school, but not particularly strong for my research areas and too far from home. I withdrew my application from my undergraduate institution today, University of Toronto -- learned they were about to give me an offer as early as this afternoon if I changed my mind, but I don't want to take up space when I'm certain I won't be attending. So heads up to any UofT applicants, it looks like they're close to making their first round of offers.
  4. Thanks everyone!! Really overwhelmed and excited right now, I just don't know what to do with myself! I should have added re: Columbia, it was an informal call from one of the African history professors who wanted to talk to me first. So if you haven't heard anything just yet, it doesn't necessarily mean you haven't gotten in, because I haven't received the official DGS email either. My email said "Should you decide not to accept Princeton's offer, we would especially appreciate hearing from you early, as we then may be able to admit other candidates from our waitlist."
  5. I haven't because I didn't even think about the possibility of having options to consider! I'll let this all sink in over the next few days and then come up with a plan. In the meantime, I'm going back to bed and enjoying the day I'm giving myself off instead of trekking to campus Good luck today everyone!! And you'll hear soon, crazed!
  6. I was so sure the Northwestern rejection on Saturday was the beginning of a string of rejections, and I was trying really hard to stay optimistic and hope at least one school would accept me. I can't believe it!!!
  7. Just got into Princeton! Email from the dean of the graduate school.
  8. I'm a non-drinker, but the crown sounds nice Thanks TMP, and congrats on your acceptances!! Best of luck to everyone over the next few days and weeks. I started off with a rejection from Northwestern, so stay optimistic and remember that it's still pretty early in the process!
  9. Thanks everyone, and congrats to all the other admits today. Just when I thought the day was over and I was hoping for news tomorrow... still can't believe it!!
  10. I just got a call from POI at Columbia telling me about my acceptance!!! IS THIS REAL LIFE??!
  11. Thanks everyone!! I still haven't gotten past the first line in the email, but I think I've settled down enough to read through it now
  12. SCRATCH THAT, I JUST GOT INTO YALE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! LAWD HAMMERCY!
  13. Ahh congrats to everyone who got in today! I wonder what Thursday will bring?
  14. Crazedandinfused is completely right -- there are just so many considerations that go into graduate admission decisions, and it's easy to assume a rejection says something about the quality of our applications when we're in the dark about the entire process. It could be that the department wanted more students in X subfield this year instead of yours, it could be that a POI will be on leave or retiring soon, or that a POI simply has his/her hands full with grad students for the next year or two. So there's no reason to feel that each department will receive your application the same way, when each program has its own internal dynamics and needs. Chin up, AFB! I'm sure you'll be celebrating soon
  15. Off to class, and sending everyone good vibes today! I have a feeling it'll be busy around here in a few hours
  16. Oh no, how awful!! What happened? I'm so sorry
  17. Looking at last year's results, it seems that people were rejected, waitlisted or received MA offers on the 14th, but accepted students all heard between February 7th and 9th.
  18. No idea! I'm not in the US though, so I wonder if they're reaching out to international students early for travel considerations? Unless the interviews changed their usual schedule, I think we'll know before the end of the week. I'm DYING to know what they've decided.
  19. Yikes, I get home from class and this thread is four pages longer! I received an email from UPenn's history graduate chair just before my class at 1pm, with details on funding and an invitation to visit the school on March 16th. I'm still waiting to hear from my top choices, but I'm absolutely thrilled that I've been offered admission to a great school and that I'll definitely be starting a PhD in the fall.
  20. I'm in! I think we'll hear from Princeton and Yale by Thursday, a few early Harvard admits before the end of the week (informal POI emails), with the rest of their decisions on Monday. Columbia on Monday as well.
  21. I just took a look at last year's result survey, looks like Yale, Princeton, Brown, Harvard and Columbia notified this week (around the 10th). I think we'll hear from Berkeley and UCLA soon too, since a few acceptances have trickled out already.
  22. Sorry to hear about all the rejections today! I hope we'll all receive good news soon. Any predictions for schools we'll hear from this week?
