  1. Hmmm I wonder if SSHRC discloses it to the graduate school (or whatever body manages fellowships and funding for the entire university), and that they in turn choose whether or not to notify individual departments (or contact students directly)... so the DGS of your *department* really may not know who the winners are, while the university itself has received that info from SSHRC. It does seem that SSHRC has notified all Canadian universities, but I don't doubt that the people some of you guys are interacting with may not be the same people who possess that info. (I'm a direct applicant at a US school and have no idea how this works in Canada, so just a guess)
  2. Congrats Zaftig! And good luck to everyone still waiting for results
  3. I think so too, but I'm just so anxious to know. I'm going to go get some ice cream to comfort myself, and possibly some chicken wings.
  4. Carthage, I did a quick check of the dates with the last letter we received from SSHRC -- the envelope is postmarked February 11 (a Tuesday), and I received it here in Boston the following Tuesday, February 18th. That Monday was Presidents' Day, with no mail delivery. So if that's the general time frame for mail from Ottawa to Boston, I'm thinking it'll be Tuesday for us in Mass if letters are mailed out today.
  5. Strange attitude. Who doesn't apply for external fellowships even when they have regular funding? I'm doing it because it will free up my fourth year from teaching obligations so I can go off and start dissertation fieldwork a year early, and because it's a competitive award that anyone would be lucky to have on their CV. Even though I don't *need* it to complete my degree, I'm still here freaking out. He's probably just trying to play it cool, or perhaps preparing himself to deal with the possibility of not winning
  6. Same here. I have so much to do but I feel paralyzed by the wait, especially with SSHRC's tweet about how we'll hear something by the end of the day. So obviously that means I'll be BSing until 5pm and refreshing this page and their feed until I see something, then maybe I can focus on my work. I'll feel a bit relieved when I know the letter is in the mail, because that gives me about 4 days before I can realistically expect receiving it here in the US and finding out my results.
  7. I doubt it, with the long weekend it's probably just a nice time to take vacation days and maximize your time off.
  8. Congrats pbaid and surefire! I'm jealous of all of you guys based at Canadian schools, not only do I have to wait for the letter as a direct applicant, it takes a bit longer to reach a US address. If the letters are mailed out today, I'm quite certain the situation I've been having nightmares about will come true -- getting the letter just as I'm going into my comprehensive exams on Tuesday, and not knowing whether or not to open it before or after o_O
  9. Diakonos, it's certainly frustrating to monitor the Twitter feed as people eager for news about the doctoral awards, but it's not like SSHRC really owes us anything here. They've said we can expect results at the end of April, and they're moving exactly according to the timeline they've stated.
  10. Dang, a lot has happened in this thread! Congrats to gradschoolcat and anyone else who was notified through their universities. I just want these letters to get mailed out, dammit!
  11. Can someone with Twitter send them a tweet? For the team!
  12. Konstantin, did those announcements say that they were mailed the day of the tweet? Someone mentioned they sometimes tweet after the fact. I want to believe they mailed them out before the long weekend lol
  13. Are they just going to tweet congratulations to the SSHRC storytellers finalists throughout the day? *dying*
  14. Oh that would be amazing, crimsoc. I'm going insane here, refreshing this thread and SSHRC's twitter page from time to time since 8am this morning :/ I hope it's mailed out today so I can get my letter here in New England by Monday.
  15. Good luck to you too, crimsoc! Sending positive vibes all around. Let's hope these letters are out tomorrow.
  16. Now that we know letters will likely be mailed out next week, I've been mentally preparing myself for the possibility I did not receive a SSHRC. I know I can re-apply, but I would be SO disappointed to have to go through this process again I can't think of the last time I've wanted something so badly.
  17. Ohhh I hope they're mailed out early next week! It took a while for the letter to get to me in Massachusetts last time, and I won't be at this address after Tuesday, April 29th. I emailed them to change my address to my folks in Toronto, but they said they'll update my file on the 28th. I would hate to miss it
