  1. Hey guys, so here is my question: I was previously an exchange student in the US on J-1 visa and after I went home, my J-1 visa was stamped "cancelled without prejudice". I am coming to the US again this fall on F-1 visa. On the DS-160 form there is a question asks "has your us visa ever been cancelled or revoked" Cancellation without prejudice (as in my case) should still be considered a yes for this question, right? Wonder if anybody has the same situation. Thanks a lot.
  2. I haven't heard back from them either. During my interview the professor told me that it would take them another couple of weeks before reaching the final decision, which, judging from the results(timeline) from previous years, seems to be the case. Plus, I haven't heard about anyone getting the acceptance call. So don't lose hope-not yet. Best of luck! p.s. Harvard is definitely my top-choice. In fact, I cannot imagine going to any other school. Not the healthiest mentality when you are applying to grad school. B)Anyway, fingers crossed!
  3. If I may ask, how long was your interview? Was it more of an informal one (like why sociology, why harvard etc.) or was it more about your research experience and stuff like that? Thanks & Good luck!
  4. I am applying as well:) So what are your research interests?
  5. I hate waiting.

  6. I am wondering about that too. But there is a rejection via email listed as well...so I guess no phone and no email means we still have hope right? Congrats to those who got in! Does anyone know if Columbia indeed sends out acceptances in batches?
  7. I have already submitted all my applications and now I am just really freaking out...i'm wondering if I have actually aimed too high and will ended up in the "who does she think she is" category... here are my basic stats: international student, undergrad, very top university in China major: south asia studies (3.70/4) double major: sociology (3.52/4) 2010 GRE: 660(V) 800(Q) 5.0 (AWA) languages: Chinese, English, Urdu one year exchange experience in the US(when I was in high school)+Pakistan (sophomore year college) one publication on Islamic culture in south asia (just a regular journal, nothing fancy) Research assistant for three months no work exprerience research interest: gender, stratification, comparative sociology some schools I applied to: Stanford, Princeton, Northwestern, Brown, U Maryland, Rutgers am I aiming too high? I don't really know how the admission process actually work in the US. Thanks for all your insights in advance!
