  1. I am the admit who posted that it was in my spam... I can't believe I almost missed it!!
  2. Yes, mine was the same! See you in March? =)
  3. I'm one of the new Penn State posters on the results page... I got an email from DGS about a phone call to discuss the program... which I'm assuming means "interview". I guess I'll find out in a few days!
  4. Hey fellow UMich fans... I talked to a prof today who informed me that they probably won't make decisions until the end of Feb. (they're just starting to review apps now). So you can breathe easy for a few weeks!
  5. Columbia - Teacher's College (basically their College of Ed), they have a "Sociology and Education" PhD program...
  6. I've been laying low thus far... trying not to get too discouraged with this whole process. I know I'm definitely out of the game for good after this round of apps, so hopefully I'll hear something positive! I applied to ND, Mich, NYU, Penn St., UPenn, Johns Hopkins, and Columbia (but to TC)
  7. Details chillin? How'd you find out? Were you on a waitlist? etc...
  8. Obviously its not the same for every department, but I have a friend there in Anthro who says his dept isn't even reviewing apps until the 15th... so who knows.
  9. Are you going to the MAPSS visit days in a few weeks? I'm thinking that is what is going to help me decide...
  10. I guess I didn't mean my GPA and GRE were "ok" -- I think they were pretty good and decently competitive (I'm sure my undergrad institution is obvious from my username, ha). My recs were weak b/c one was from a current employer rather than a prof (I've been here 3 years since graduating and from what I was told, it seemed like I needed one from them) and one was from a prof at a lesser college where I took a class last fall as a refresher, last was prob a good one from an undergrad prof. Either way, I suppose I got in. I'm waiting to hear back from a few other places re: phd progs but I felt the same way -- is it better to go and beef up my app for the chance to get in better schools next year? The timeline just seems tight with having to start applying for schools only having known some of these professors for a few months and needing recs from them.
  11. That's awesome! I didn't know they offered full scholarships... that gives me hope -- I know I'm in, just haven't received the letter w/ offer yet. I had applied for Soc PhD... I knew it was a stretch, I think my GRE and GPA were ok and recs were ok, but I have been out of school for a few years and needed a better writing sample. I guess I better work my butt off if I decide to go there... Do you know if you're taking it? Or going to the visit days?
  12. Thoughts? Funding offers? Thanks!
  13. The Soc PhD dept passed my application to the MAPSS (Masters of Arts Program in the Soc. Sciences) and apparently I was accepted! I don't have any info yet about funding/cost/etc., but she did say they will be sending out letters and invitations to the visit days very soon...
  14. Anyone heard from these ?
  15. I'm waiting to hear from the Soc PhD prog... If it makes anyone feel better, Chi is on quarters, and their spring quarter doesn't start until April. I've heard that their visit days are early in the spring quarter... therefore... ergo... blah blah blah... try not to be too stressed if you haven't heard anything yet. I know sometimes depts have different visit weekends, but I feel as though I remember coming across that on one of the general sites...
