  1. As someone with direct knowledge, this isnt' strictly true. I know students who received a scholarship worth their entire tutition [they still had to make living expenses, but that isn't money that would be going to the school], so the picture is somewhat more murky than that. I know people who had very good times there and who have parlayed it into full funding offers from some of the top programs in their field. I know some people who had a terrible time [social reasons playing a good part in this equation as well as academic]. It can be a mixed boat. I wouldn't choose it over a funded spot in a PHD program obviously, but if you don't have that it can be a good stepping stone; or it can educate you about why you don't want to do a PHD.
  2. Well, obviously there is your subject of choice: one of the might be better than the other, even if the other is in some sense better overall. Anyway, from what I can tell, Harvard would be better. [You should also take a glance at, say, the Philosophical Gourmet reports since there is overlap in theory with work done in pol philosophy]. This is also a very informative source of information: http://www.blogger.com/comment.g?blogID ... 6346011299 It's a pretty wide-ranging affiar about departments in general; some rumors here, some rumors there, discussions about canon, etc, but also a good amount of discussion about which departments are best. I believe Harvard was granted superior placement over Yale in part thanks to the size of the faculty.
  3. Well, nothing in the mail and no email, so i guess I'll probably hear ill word tomorrow.
  4. Fantastic, now I have to trust that my letter would go out at the same time AND [more improbable] that I can trust my local mail deliverer. On my mark start the marathon of nerves...go!
  5. How did you hear--mail, email, website? I just wanna know what I should check when I get home...
