I was waitlisted and I did not have an interview first. From the email I got from my POI, it sounded like the school did option 2 from newms' list. I know they have exactly 4 spaces to fill, and their shortlist is "about 15 people". I would guess that the top 4 are being interviewed (or maybe even the top half?) and then they go down the list from there if they extend admits and people decline.

I just received an email from one of my POIs at UVA telling me that they have 3-4 spots available in the department for this fall, and that I've been placed on the waiting list. I didn't know if I even had a shot so I'm happy just to be considered! =) I hope the rest of you hear soon too, and that it's good news!

Thanks for the info! Good for your friend, bad for the rest of us I guess, though I think my primary POI decided not to take a new student this year afterall so I wasn't getting my hopes up. Maybe next year.

I applied only to UVA, and haven't heard anything regarding admissions yet. When I was emailing with UVA profs in early February last year though it sounded like they had made their admissions decisions in late January, thus I would expect the same timeline this year. Beyond UVA, I'm afraid I can't be too helpful to anyone in terms of insight into the decision timelines. BTW, Mr Tea, a huge congrats on your U Michigan invitation! Very impressive!

Does anyone happen to know if UVA interviews applicants to its social psychology PhD program? I searched the results postings from previous years and didn't see anyone mention a UVA interview, but then there aren't too many postings from UVA social psych applicants to begin with. I can't tell whether that means they don't interview, or just that no one posted about their interview at UVA. Also, congrats to whoever got the UCLA social psych interview! Good luck! =)
